I believe it is able to wirelessly extend range as well (finding the wifi signal the same as your phone does, but then broadcasting it again to extend coverage), so you wouldn't necessarily need to run an ethernet cable between routers, however I did. The app is easy to use, and it offers access to the basics you need, including some remote troubleshooting tools that might come in handy.But if you have lots of wireless devices that use the internet simultaneously, Wi-Fi speed and latency become an issue.
