We look into the ingredients used in washing-up liquid and what their environmental impact is, including whether they are biodegradable, harmful to aquatic life or persistent (whether they are likely to accumulate and linger in waterways). Fairy is also sold in Germany: in 2000 it was briefly renamed Dawn (the brand used in the North American market), but, after sharply declining sales due to an unfamiliar brand, the Fairy name was revived in 2002.
