The writing is straightforward, and at times perhaps obvious, but herein lies the beauty. The story is uncomplicated, the writing conversational and introspective, which makes this book relatable to all mothers. The specialist thread running through the story is that of Lucy’s first son Stanley, and his journey to a neuro-divergent diagnosis. There are times that it feels that Lucy is getting it wrong handling Stanley’s behaviour; this adds to the overall realness of the storyline - what mother doesn’t get it wrong sometimes with their children never mind before she has an education in neurodiversity and what mother at times questions her gut when it is telling her that something is wrong which ultimately leads Lucy to the answers. Autism is a spectrum – a huge spectrum at that. I’ve spent countless hours educating myself about it and I’ve learnt that no two autistic children are the same” I spent a very enjoyable weekend reading “M is for Mummy” written by Katy Cox - classically trained cellist, blogger and now author. It takes a little while for the plot, and the meaning behind the title, to reveal itself. Mixed behind all of the touching, mother/child dynamic the main character's constant longing for her pre-child life really grated on me and I almost put the book down. John directed his attention to Mrs. Holmes. “That was the first I’d seen or heard of him. Mycroft said it was an assassination attempt.”

John spun to see the nearby person, not even of their party, grinning at them. “It’s not a date!” he hissed, and could tell no one believed him. The sharp series of raps on the exterior door had him falling into silence. With a serious air of frustration, the man exited the room. But when he opened the exterior door, John truly relaxed. I got up from my seat and walked out of the cold hospital room. I grabbed a cup of coffee from the waiting room and took the elevator to the sixth floor. The floor that they held all the newborns in.My youngest son, Dr. Watson. A menace, it seems, despite previously not indicating the tendencies his brothers have expressed.”

There were a couple of points in the book that I struggled with, the church faeces scene cringed me out, and I was a little uncomfortable reading that, as well as calling the more petite woman at the slimming class “skinnies” but other than that this book is a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it to others, those that are parents and even those that want to become parents, because believe me being a parent is not all sunshine and rainbows, and I love the fact that the author includes the lows of family life, especially with a child with ASD, ad unfortunately there are still individuals out there who cannot comprehend the idea of ASD and just accuse young children of having tantrums, and I like the fact that the author approached this issue in the book in a more productive manner. Mycroft finally spoke up. “In Sherrinford’s defense, the tactic was quite successful. Collapse of the remaining network was immediate and he should arrive at the estate shortly before us.” So if you're in a mood for brainless entertainment, I recommend that you set your intellect on stun, rush to the nearest cineplex, buy the large popcorn (WITH butter), and settle in for a couple of hours of colorful, loud, over-the-top fun.Brilliantly written, honest and poignant, Katy Cox’s warm-hearted tale about motherhood, family and love is not to be missed. Cox has done an excellent job making it feel that it's alright to say, 'The mental load is so overwhelming that I fail to articulate a response.' And parenthood can and does do that to you. The emotional weight that doesn't get the chance to breathe. I will take this message and say I need a moment because sometimes you do. Parenting is hard, oh I know and not just because you are likely to be nodding in agreement with me. Straightening, the Quartermaster continued, “And I can assure you, his actions in combat are well outside of your jurisdiction. Now, you will release Dr. Watson and we shall be leaving immediately.”

Lucy was an accomplished cellist, independent, travelled around for gigs, mingled with the rich and famous and was just waiting for a big break. The Quartermaster scoffed. “You regularly act in deference to Queen and Country, Dr. Watson. Precisely how would you define the position?” The Quartermaster, as he’d identified himself, Q, as Mrs. Holmes identified him, sighed. Mrs. Holmes stared at him for a moment, waiting for him to speak. Her sense of irritation outpaced his remorse, apparently.Brendan Fraser looks good, has a fabulous voice, and a whole boatload of goofy charm. Hey! Call me shallow, but that's pretty much all I'm looking for in a screen idol. John Hannah was acceptable, if not inspired, as the wastrel brother. Rachel Weisz is gorgeous, and acquits herself well in the role of "Heroine in an Adventure Film;" i.e., she screams and gets rescued a lot. Hardly,” he drawled. “I don’t consider this a joking matter,” the Quartermaster continued with the lift of an eyebrow. He was interrupted. “An intermittent tremor in your left hand. However, Dr. Watson, the demands of the situation must.” Mrs. Holmes closed her eyes for a moment. John couldn’t imagine the depth of patience required to deal with her children, he’d only ever been partially responsible for one. He stood, rubbing at his wrists, and followed when the Quartermaster gestured to the door. They stepped through, continuing down a short hallway, and John kept his eyes focused ahead in an attempt to ignore the accusing glances.
