The Beatles’ 1968 self-titled double album, more commonly known as “ The White Album,” is one of the most iconic and influential releases in rock history. Instead, the single featured a new, faster version, with heavily distorted guitar and an electric piano solo by Nicky Hopkins. The Ampex reel tape version of The Beatles has become desirable to collectors, as it contains edits on eight tracks not available elsewhere. Further to the betrayal they had felt at Lennon's non-activist stance in "Revolution", New Left commentators condemned The Beatles for its failure to offer a political agenda.
