Although this is the first time that we have make such a variety of colors all at once. It was a total hit with the kids. There is something about all the bright colors that just draws a person in (or maybe that was all the sparkly glitter). It feels like we are celebrating something. I may just need to pull out the party hats and make up something to celebrate. The best thing about playdough is that it is a brilliant tool to help develop a child’s fine motor skills as well as letting their imagination run wild. Add 1-2 drops of your food colouring. Kids love squishing and mixing playdough colors. This is the perfect activity for that. I mean, what is a play dough rainbow if you can’t squish all the colors together? The swirls of color were simply beautiful. Glitter, glitter and more glitter (according to my kids) made this the best playdough recipe ever. You can never have too much glitter. And if you happen to get the ingredient ratio a little wrong, don’t worry. It is easy to learn how to make slime out of playdough. If you used the 2 ingredient play dough like us, it simple turns into 2 ingredient slime with a little mixing of the cornstarch and conditioner ratio. This recipe makes about four commercial containers worth of play dough. Tips for making this play dough You can also add extra sensory items by adding scents like vanilla extract, Peppermint extract or Liquorice extract. And by adding texture with uncooked rice and pulses.

You can add sprinkles to the cooking dough, but my kids love to add them later. Both methods work great. Although my kids love pouring and mixing the glitter on their own. I am sure by letting my kids do it, we end up using more glitter but I also know that they love doing it. Sparkly Galaxy Playdough: a soft colorful playdough that is perfect for out of this world play! Shades of pinks, purples, and blue blend together for a galaxy look. Add a touch of stars and glitter for a fun playtime activity. The fun thing about this recipe is you can keep adding glitter as it gets absorbed into the playdough so it never loses its sparkle. It is a messy dough and will get on to your child’s hands. If they are tactile defensive then they may not like this type of playdough but its great for those who do seek extra sensory input and although it gets onto the hands it does not stain the hands with colour at all and is easily washed off. My kids love the touch of glitter and confetti stars. It really adds a pop of fun and what kid doesn’t like glitter? 🙂

This playdough is soft and lasts a long time if kept in an air tight container. To prevent the sparkly galaxy playdough becoming one solid color I would recommend mixing the separate colors as the kids want to play. You can make all the colors individually and they can either use them separately or together to recreate this galaxy playdough. I used the Lava Blast colour, which is red but can become pink if you dilute it more so if you want it to stay red just be aware of that! How to make your sparkly gel doughWhen completely cool, wrap the dough in the parchment paper and store in a sealable bag. Our dough lasted for months!
