Description

The DYU D3F’s ease of use starts when it arrives. Due to its small size, DYU doesn’t have to break it down into a thousand pieces to ship. The result is a fast assembly that should have you riding in no less than 10 minutes, as long as your battery is charged. If you’re planning a grand tour on a single charge, you may come up short. The DYU D3F parks up after XX km, so careful planning of your route may be necessary to avoid the dread of running out of juice mid-journey.

The DYU D3F is a choice for budget-minded riders looking for an e-bike that will fit into spaces other bikes would not. I can only see people purchasing this bike if they specifically need to be able to fold down and fit their e-bike inside the boot of a car. When looking at the available options, this is probably the most affordable e-bike on the market, and it comes with the same downsides other budget bikes do. The D3F has a reasonably bright headlight that is pretty good in low-light conditions. But, you may want to supplement it with a brighter one on the handlebars or mount one to your helmet if you’re going to do lots of riding at night. There’s also a tail light to enhance your safety when riding on the road in the dark, although this is battery-powered, and you need to fit it yourself. Most people will buy a DYU D3F for its compactness and portability. This bike becomes more compact when you drop the handlebars allowing you to squeeze it into tight spaces, helped by the integrated handle. The unit is paired with a 250W battery that is practically useless on anything more than a gentle slope. Go beyond a slight incline and the bike just has no power. You are better off walking up most hills. I don’t know where they get the claim that it will climb a 15° grade, but it would never make it. Short gentle hills and flat ground are all this bike is made for.

Let’s take a closer look at the electrical specifications and features of the DYU D3F. It is equipped with a 36V, 10Ah (360Wh) battery, providing ample power for extended rides. The LED display allows riders to monitor essential information such as battery life, speed, and distance traveled. The 240W rear hub motor delivers efficient and reliable performance. For enhanced safety, the DYU D3F includes both a headlight and taillights, ensuring visibility in low-light conditions. The pedal assist system, with one level of assistance controlled by a cadence sensor, offers a user-friendly and intuitive riding experience. Additionally, a throttle is included for moments when riders prefer to rely solely on motor power. Normally in this section we’ve got a big chart comparing how the braking power of the e-bike being reviewed compares to the braking power of all the other e-bikes we’ve reviewed. Portability is another strength of the DYU D3F. Weighing just 38 pounds and equipped with a folding handlepost and grab handle, this Electric bike is exceptionally easy to transport. Whether you need to take it on public transportation or store it in a tight space, the DYU D3F’s compact design ensures that it won’t be a burden. Its lightweight nature makes it an ideal choice for urban commuters and individuals who frequently need to carry their bikes. Another sign that DYU is confident that the D3F is to be used as a legitimate form of transport is waterproofing. They have made this electric bike IP54, which means it’s protected against contamination from limited amounts of dust and water spray in any direction. So, you can ride it in the rain, but don’t clean it with a pressure washer or ride through a ford.

e-Bikes and e-Cargo bikes can be legally ridden on roads if you are over 14 years old and if the e-Bike or e-Cargo fits a strict criteria which can be found here. After a couple of rides, you’ll learn how to get the best out of the D3F and begin to enjoy its agile handling and tight turning circle. The bike’s small size is also a benefit when you are riding in the tight confines of an urban environment. The small wheels make for a very small turning radius, allowing the D3F to corner on a dime. And while this proves a little sketchy at speed, it’s a bonus when performing low-velocity maneuvers. So, size is the largest benefit of this little bike, both when riding and storing it. And that’s about it. The gist of this bike is it’s very cheap, very small and very simple. None of those facts make this a bad e-bike by any means, but it is important to keep all of them in mind when buying. This bike is for fun, and in that sense it does a great job. Aside from the crunched pedaling position, the 38x12t gear ratio is pretty spinny by the time you reach about 12 mph. It’s nice for climbing, but I think you’re going to find throttling a bit more comfortable on flat ground.

The Verdict: DYU D3F Folding E-Bike Review

At a third of a mile long and a 12 percent gradient on average, Hell Hole is steep enough and long enough to stress even the most powerful e-bikes we review, let alone a lightly-powered minibike. But we did try. I think it goes without saying that the DYU D3F is a weird little e-bike. We’ve come to call it the “clown car” bike because our testers — especially me at a lanky 6’1” — look a bit ridiculous when riding it.
