I really hoped I would like this rum. It's an OK rum, but the extra alcohol throws the beautiful balance that Rumbullion! has and goes too far in my opinion. I lost all of the vanilla, orange peel & cola flavours and all I could taste was a strong alcohol flavour. At the core of this fabulous winter warmer lies a blend of the very finest high proof Caribbean rum, to which was added creamy Madagascan vanilla and a generous helping of zesty orange peel. A secret recipe was followed, finished with a handful of cassia and cloves and just a hint of cardamom.

I would suggest trying a sampler on this one before outlaying the money. It’s a lot for a 500ml size bottle. The flavours I so love in the original Rumbullion! are covered up with the higher alcohol content, leaving my taste buds unimpressed. A final flutter of toasted oak appears on the tail.Ableforth's took their famous Rumbullion! and bottled it at Navy Strength to create a much much 'bigger' drink. This is a warming concoction that would no doubt give a sailor vim and vigour on a stormy night! I love Rumbullion, I REALLY love the Navy Strength Rumbullion and I so wanted to like the XO.... but I didn’t. It tastes more like a concentrated Scotch. Having not tried the XO I was hesitant to award a 10 but it is easily my favourite spiced rum and can be drunk straight so I've gone 10. Nose: A huge hit of creamy, sweet vanilla and juicy, freshly sliced oranges. There is a mulled wine-like delivery of toasted cinnamon and cloves, with a core of well-aged rum. Aromatic notes of dark chocolate, ripe plums and fragrant oak develop in the glass.

Nose: A fabulously decadent nose of intense, sweet vanilla and flamed orange zest. The cardamom makes itself known by offering up an evocative suggestion of old-fashioned cola, and to this the cloves bring out a deep, dark complexity. Yet more sweetness with cinnamon, which melds beautifully with essential oil notes of Seville orange peel. I do enjoy spiced rum at times, and I'm awarding this one a 9 in my "spiced" rum category, as its the best I've ever tried thus far. Its actually head-and-shoulders any spiced rum I've ever encountered. I'll hold the coveted "10" in reserve, in case I ever find a spiced rum that trumps this exceptionally fine spirit some day. Our bins hold 18-24 bottles of wine or Champagne or 2-3 cases of lager when filled with ice and water.
