Description

With the first day’s box giving you a new pre-soldered Raspberry Pi Pico H, Micro-USB cable and breadboard, all you need is a compatible computer (with a full-size USB port) to plug it into - a Windows PC, Mac or Linux machine (Chromebooks are NOT compatible). The Raspberry Pi Pico is a powerful, flexible microcontroller board from, you guessed it, Raspberry Pi - the same folks who brought us the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi Zero. Today we'll be using our buzzer in a few different ways, first for simple beeps and tones, then combining with our potentiometer to control the volume, then finally something a little more advanced where we use different frequencies to generate festive tones!

We hope you enjoyed the games in today's break beam activities - why not get the whole family involved to show off your project and see who can score the highest for ultimate bragging rights? Whilst our Let it Glow calendar has a blinky theme, this calendar has a great mix of lots of different kinds of components to Copy that code to your top-right panel, then hit the run button. The LED should light up – hooray – you’ve controlled your first physical component!

So, what can we do with this large range of input readings? One thing we can do is use it in our code to control other components, such as our LEDs. This very fast ON/OFF signal can create a fading effect for LEDs, and can also be used to control robotics components such as servos.

As always, please do not disassemble the circuit until tomorrow where we will explore the next fun component - see you then! This twelve-day advent calendar will teach you how to code with MicroPython using a Raspberry Pi Pico, using software along with a selection of fun, popular components along the way. We’re going to use code to make hardware interact with the real world!

The included Raspberry Pi Pico H and project parts combined with the easy-to-follow instructions, clear example code and helpful Tip: This is a simple buzzer, so it doesn't quite have the smooth sound that a normal speaker will create. The buzzer can sound a little more 'Nightmare Before Christmas' than 'Elf'! # Imports Now we know how functions work, let's apply them to our jingle example to see if we can reduce the length of the code.
