Description

The build quality of the Godox V860 III is excellent. The flash feels sturdy and more durable in the hand than some smaller flashes. Having said that, I’ve never had any issues with the build quality of any Godox equipment. Specifications

The V860III can be used as a controller for three other groups of flashes - even if it’s not being used as a flash itself. As a transmitter, the V860III can trigger the V1, the AS200 Pro, and the AD 300 Pro. As a receiver, the V860III can be triggered by the X1, X2, Xpro, and the V1.

The Godox VING V860III SPEEDLIGHT is absolute value for money; it doesn’t have the looks or modern, sleek feel of the V1, but when it comes to quality and use, the V860III provides. A nice touch is that the flashes wireless system is designed to be compatible with much of the present Godox range. You can partner the Godox VING V860III SPEEDLIGHT with the X1 wireless trigger system and higher-end V1 flashguns. Another nice touch, especially for Pros, is that if you have the V1 as your main flash, these cheaper V860III are fully compatible with communication and even share the same battery type. Switching the flash to the manual is pretty straightforward and enables you full control over the use of your flash with a good amount of adjustment that should suit most users.

Although this third model in the line does come with a higher price tag than previous versions, the new features, and excellent battery more than makeup for this. Photographers can start to build a kit with Godox products around this long-lasting VB26A battery — hopefully more products will use it in the future. Godox V860 III Pros At that point, thanks to Reddit, I already knew that I had to connect the Flash usb port with a usb cable A (on the PC side) to C (it was not mentioned in the doc, but it was here on reddit). Aside from the power, the wireless connectivity options with the X1 wireless trigger and receivers add a further dimension to the use and it sync’d easily with the system. The use of the Li-Ion battery is certainly a perk, at least for power and recycle time. Most flashes use AA batteries, which are easier to come by and cheaper, but never offer comparable performances.

Portraits taken with the V860III

The flash arrives in a decent fabric protective case and includes a simple flash stand which will come in use when the flash is used off-camera. This stand features a standard 1/4-inch thread on the base, so it is easily mountable on a standard tripod. In addition to the flash itself, a case and a foot, it comes with a dedicated battery charger (compatible with batteries for the Godox V1 and Godox AD100Pro), as well as a quality USB-C cable and a wall plug capable of delivering 2A and 10W. Physical Description They share the same battery which is fantastic for those wishing to build a complete lighting system with this brand. Even the menu design of the V860 III is similar to the V1, breaking away from the menu system on older Godox hardware. Value for Money If you’re looking for a workhorse flash with a ton of features and a battery that just seems to keep going and going, the Godox V860 III is an excellent choice. For event photographers and those who use on-camera-flash in fast-paced environments, these updates, especially with the low cost, will be more than welcome.

The flash proves to be a powerful tool with a good even spread of light with decent control over the power and duration. The inclusion of the LED modelling light gives the flash an added boost, and the colour temperature remained constant throughout the test. The 20-200mm motorized zoom head comes complete with a pull-out wide-angle diffuser and white catchlight card. (Image credit: Matthew Richards) The V860III (Zoom III R2 TTL) still has all the features existing users know and love, including a zoom mode (20mm to 200mm) for easy light range adjustments, -7 to 120-degree vertical angle adjustment, the built-in 2.4G Wireless X system allowing for seamless connectivity of multiple flash heads and Triggers like the X1, a High-Speed Sync (HSS) capable of shooting up to 1/8000s, FEC, FEB, and rear curtain sync modes. This is great, however, those with fat thumbs will have issues pressing in on the control wheel to activate the controls. Overall, the controls are well laid out. All of the buttons and the control dial are reachable with just your thumb, which makes for a pleasant user experience. One of the things I love about Godox flashes is the ease with which you can set up transmitters and receivers. Using one flash or commander to trigger another off-camera flash is simple and takes seconds. Right below the screen are four buttons whose functions will change according to the current mode. The screen will show the current setting.

The V860 III offers many options, and can take a while to master. Its user interface is essentially similar to that of the V860 II. I loved using the V860III off camera triggered by the Godox Xpro trigger for these shots of Lucy Lumen Mylio Photos – Access your photos from anywhere, without the cloud! Easily showcase your photos on-the-go, resolve duplicates, find faces and look for those stunning locations. One perk of the Godox system is that, with the proper trigger acting as a receiver, it is possible to use flashes from different brands together, thanks to the X protocol which can translate signals between different brands. For instance, one could use a Canon flash, mount it on a X2T made for Canon, and trigger it with a Sony camera equipped with another X2T made for Sony. In that fashion, the X protocol is more open than competing options.
