I genuinely love remakes. John Carpenter’s The Thing, Vincent Price in the House of Wax, Marcus Nispel’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead are fantastic remakes that I’ve spent many hours enjoying. I say this because I’m not one of these people that immediately hate on remakes without giving them a chance. Friday the 13th is not a bad remake but it’s painfully forgettable without bringing us something new to watch. Honestly, it could have been a little more entertaining if I had not spent the last week watching the original series before this one. The 12 films included in this must-own set: Friday the 13th(1980), Friday the 13th Part 2(1981), Friday the 13th Part 3(1982), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter(1984), Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning(1985), Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives(1986), Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood(1988), Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan(1989), Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday(1993), Jason X(2001), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), and Friday the 13th(Remake) (2009). PART 10: JASON X: Missing audio during a scene in the film in which Jason kills camp counselors in a sleeping bag .PART 3 (When viewing in 3D) – First instance of 3D opening credits does not come out of the screen correctly.

NEW Chicago to Connecticut: The Early Career of Harry Manfredini – an interview with composer Harry Manfredini FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround / French-Parisian, Spanish-Latin American – Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono The acting in this one went from the best acted in the series to one of the worst. The characters and the cast in this one has always made me laugh with their soap opera like demeanor and reactions. The characters are cliches of what you would find in most slashers but how the cast reacts to different scenarios always made me laugh.The story for this one blends the already established Jason mythos with a newer one that paints him more than just an undead slasher. The film gives him a reason to kill aside from revenge with a much bigger family origin story. It would have worked if it was something established 9 films previously but randomly inserting it into the 9th film in the series makes it feel rushed and doesn’t have the impact that it would have had if it was introduced earlier in the franchise. With that being said, it is an interesting concept that brought about a much bigger scope than just a masked man killing campers. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround / French-Parisian, Spanish-Latin American – Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono The story for this one blends the first four films of the original films into one while changing some of the characters around. I kind of liked the meshing of the important moments from the first four films but it does make these aspects feel meaningless. The pacing is fairly smooth and we get plenty of slasher action to break up some of the more slower scenes. The audio commentary, which has finally been carried over from the From Crystal Lake to Manhattan DVD set, is a lively discussion with the cast about their experiences making the film. In Fresh Cuts, the cast and crew talk about the making of the film and how difficult it was. Lost Tales from Camp Blood: Part 3 continues with another slasher short film. The still galleries contain a total of 145 on-set stills, behind-the-scenes photos, press materials, posters, lobby cards, memorabilia, and newspaper clippings. The Fangoria magazine BD-ROM attachment features an interview with Steve Miner about the third film by Bob Martin, and an interview with Doug White about his make-up effects work in the third film by David Everitt.
