Description

The FLIR C5 compact thermal camera is a brilliant thermal-imaging device that does exactly what is promised on the box, and in a manner that makes its output easy to use in a report. Whether you’re preparing a report on a boiler or examining wiring or insulation, the fusion images are easily captured and – perhaps more importantly –easily understood. People with no understanding of thermal imaging (beyond having seen Predator) will instantly understand the output. The Flir E4’s field of view is much wider with a 56° x 42° viewing angle compared to the C2’s 41° x 31°. The Flir C5 has an infrared sensor with a 160 x 120 thermal resolution just like the Flir One Pro thermal camera for smartphones and alongside it, there is a visual camera together with an LED light and the images from the two sensors are combined using the MSX Multi Spectral Dynamic Imaging software. Multispectral Dynamic Imaging MSX is the best image enhancement technology found on compact thermal imaging cameras. In terms of value, you do get more thermal pixels than you would in some of the EX series infrared cameras with MSX like the Flir E5 or Flir E5-XT.

But now anyone can access thermal imaging, whether you want to spot heat sources in dark places – ideal for wildlife spotting – or identify where heat is being lost from your property. If you simply want to measure temperatures, you may prefer our guide to the best infrared thermometers, but for HVAC, electronics, and plumbing these are now essential. But things start to look again better with the C5 when you look at the temperature sensitivity which is 0.05 for the C5 and 0.10 for the Flir C2. Note: the older CAT S61, still available in places, had a lower resolution IR camera, but offered laser measuring, offering an alternative with even more flexibility. Wi-Fi Connectivity: Seamlessly transfer thermal images to your mobile device with the FLIR C5's integrated Wi-Fi capability. Share real-time insights, collaborate with colleagues, and access your thermal data on the go. Manual focus mode was not added this time either to the camera, but the IR resolution is so high that you won’t miss this feature. FLIR C5 – Temperature Range, Accuracy Wide Temperature Measurement Range: The FLIR C5 offers a broad temperature measurement range, allowing you to identify subtle temperature differentials. This ensures comprehensive insights, providing you with a thorough understanding of your surroundings.

Both devices come with a visible light camera and IR sensor and will offer the MSX image enhancement module. As far as the temperature reading goes, you can have the center spot value and then you can add the coldest and the hottest spot and they can all appear simultaneously on the screen. Then there is the battery life which has doubled and now the battery lasts 4 hours on the C3-X instead of just 2 and the touchscreen is bigger with a 3.5″ size instead of just 3″ on the C3. With all these updates, the C3-X offers much better value than the older model given that it is priced more or less the same.

Thermal imaging works in the dark, or through smoke, but can be fooled by the reflectiveness (emissivity) of a surface. Because IR is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, like visible light, it also has similar properties when it encounters lenses or rain. For professional use, it pays to read up a bit on understanding thermograms, but you’ll understand the basics the moment you power on your thermal camera. Depending on the software, you can also take retrospective measurements from the thermal JPEGs. How we test thermal cameras Effortless Operation: Streamline your workflow with the FLIR C5's user-friendly interface. Intuitive controls and a responsive touch screen empower you to navigate effortlessly through thermal images, ensuring a seamless experience. Beyond the visible spectrum, there is an unseen world of heat radiation. Arty infrared film photographs aside, the practical uses of thermal imaging devices – also known as infrared thermal imagers – traditionally belonged only to military and professional budgets. If we look at the C3-X vs C3 in terms of connectivity, we’ll notice that two things have changed with the C3-X: They added Bluetooth PAN connectivity and the Wi-fi now has Cloud support, thus becoming the second thermal camera to get access to the Flir Ignite platform. It can sync all the captured thermal images in the Cloud and you should get 1GB of storage like you get with the C5.
