How does Tithe compare with other fairy tale books you've read in the past? Did you like the modern setting? If Valiant was made into a movie, what current film or TV stars would you cast as Val, Lolli, Dave, Luis, Ravus and the others? Janet's older brother. He is openly gay and is strongly attracted to Nephamael. It is implied heavily that Corny is a masochist.

Demons. Plural. Like octopi. And we’re much more likely to find them”—her voice dropped conspiratorially—“while swimming naked in the Atlantic a week before Halloween than practically anywhere else I can think of.” Kaye paused and seemed to be listening intently, her upturned, kohl-rimmed eyes watching Janet as warily as a cat’s. “What should I be like?” Kaye ran across the carousel hall and swung her leg over the sill. The bits of glass she’d mostly avoided earlier slashed a thin line on the outside of her thigh as she dropped into the sandy soil and weeds. In Ironside, the sequel to Tithe, the time has come for Roiben’s coronation. Uneasy in the midst of the malevolent Unseelie Court, pixie Kaye is sure of only one thing—her love for Roiben. But when Kaye drunkenly declares herself to Roiben, he sends her on a seemingly impossible quest to find a faerie who can tell a lie. Unable to see Roiben until she has fulfilled his quest, Kaye finds herself in the center of the battle of wits and weapons being waged over his throne. Ironside obviously takes place in December -- what are the clues that tell you what time of year it is?

The Curse Worker's Series in Order

Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale" is about sixteen year old Kaye Fierch, a girl who has been moving around with her single mother for her entire life. At a young age she has been able to see and interact with these things called faeries, although no one believed her. Then one day, she enchants a boy into falling in love with her and makes a broken, splintered horse move. Soon after that event she meets a young faerie night named Roiben, and that is just the start of her faerie adventure. Valiant: This is a standalone title, but the storyline in this books lends some color to Ironside so I recommend reading it as well. The betrayed MC, Val, goes through a pretty stunning transformation in this book from a bit of a pushover to a unique, tenacious heroine. We’re introduced to some really cool fae and some really interesting themes around friendship! Val is rough around the edges but understandably so, and she falls in with the fae in the most interesting of ways.

Kaye becomes embroiled in the ongoing feud between the Seelie and the Unseelie court. Turns out that her childhood friends, Lutie-Loo, Spike, and Gristle, are not ‘imaginary friends' after all and they are now in need of her help. Where’s Janet?” Kaye wasn’t sure what he meant. She would have thought he was teasing her except for his serious face, his slow way of speaking. Can you use that stuff, honey?” His mother was in Janet’s room, folding a new pair of secondhand jeans. She held up a T-shirt with rhinestone cats on it. “Think your sister will like it?” I shouldn't have gone in expecting this to be as good as The Cruel Prince. Because this was definitely not as good as The Cruel Prince. Assuming that Kaye's grandmother lives in Long Branch, New Jersey, get an atlas and map out the route that Kaye and Corny (and later, Luis) took during the course of their travels in Ironside.

Here, Kaye suddenly finds herself reunited with her childhood "imaginary" friends, who needs her to help them plot against the unseelie court and win the freedom of the faeries. This is the problem with most YAs. I just don't see how these two characters could fall for each other - especially in such short amount of time. Kaye saw Roiben once and fell instantaneously in love with his ... hair? I have no idea. By the way, she met him, bleeding in the woods and her first sentence was "You're a fairie, aren't you?" Barbatii sunt caracterizati in urmatorul fel: "E un tampit. Nu face altceva decat sa stea in camera lui si sa si-o frece toata ziua. Cred ca e aproape miop." The first novel of the series was published in the year 2002 by the Margaret K. McElderry Books publishing house. It was titled ‘Tithe’ and revolved around the lives of the central characters Kaye Fierch, Cornelius Stone, Janet Stone, Ellen Fierch, and Rath Roiben Rye. Were any of the quotes at the beginning of each chapter familiar to you? Choose a few of your favorites and discuss how they relate to what happened in the story at that point.
