As I mentioned, one of the reason I really like using Rub-n-Buff is that it’s so easy to apply: First you rub, then you buff. The paste can be used on painted surfaces, metal, wood, ceramics, plastic, glass, metal and more. It’s easy to apply and can completely transform any item in a matter of minutes! I love to use it on antiques, frames, crafts and home decor. Color Options My favorite way to use Rub-n-Buff is on lighting. This is probably because when we moved into our home, all of our light fixtures were that 1980s shiny yellow brass color. I love brass, but not 80s brass. At the same time, though, the style of the light fixtures (particularly the sconces) was very classic, so I couldn’t see spending a ton of money to change them out. A Pinch of Lovely added a “pinch” of gold rub ‘n buff to the top of flower pots for a little shimmer. This is such a great gift idea for friends, family, and clientele! Other Items to Consider for a Rub ‘n Buff DIY When testing out these colors, I made the rookie mistake of not sanding first like I normally do, so it made the “buffing” step next to impossible and resulted in a chunky, terribly textured, dull finish. Oops! I know better; I swear I do. Sanding is the secret sauce.

To create an antique gold finish with Rub n’ Buff, first, clean the surface you want to apply it to, and make sure it’s dry. Then, apply a small amount of Rub n’ Buff onto a soft cloth or brush. Rub the cloth or brush onto the surface in a circular motion until the desired effect is achieved. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes, and then buff it with a clean cloth to bring out the shine. What’s the Difference Between Rub n’ Buff’s European Gold and Antique Gold? It’s not technically a paint. Rub n Buff is a mixture of carnauba waxes, fine metallic powders, and pigments. You can literally rub it onto a hard surface, and gently buff away the excess wax to create a shiny luster. What to Use Rub n Buff On It is formulated from carnauba waxes, fine metallic powders, and select pigments, for a finish no paint can duplicate. It comes in a little tube and is similar to a shiny, textured paste. What Surfaces Can Rub ‘n Buff Be Used On? Y’all this stuff is so easy. I’ve been wanting to add some gold accents around our new rustic beach cottage, but I didn’t want to spend any money.

I wanted to add a small dish to the nightstand of our guest bedroom and decided to use items found in our home to whip something up. Never thought I’d be sitting at my office desk “trying on” Rub n Buff colors, but doing this little experiment was so helpful for me so I can reference all of the colors in the future, and I hope it helped you too.

I used Rub n Buff to make this cheap light fixture look like a more expensive version from Pottery Barn. How to Use Rub n Buff Salvaged Inspirations used antique gold rub ‘n buff to highlight the intricate details on an antique dresser. The luster is subtle but makes these small details pop. 5 | Gilded Seashell Jewelry DishI generally allow about 30-45 minutes of drying time before I buff with a soft cloth. My Previous Projects
