Description

A Type 2 to Type 2 EV Charging Cable or Mennekes cable is a high output connector operating from 7kWh up to 22kWh that can be used on public EV charging stations. Ezzel a kábellel lehet tölteni otthon (ammennyiben van CEE 3x32A ipari ajzat) a Type2 csatlakozóval felszerelt elektromos autót Wallbox-type home charging stations also generally take a Type 2 connector. The same is true for many public charging stations. To connect your vehicle, all you need is the right charging cable; usually provided when purchasing the car. The type of connector has no effect on the cost of installing a charging station. The Combo 2 Connector: all about rapid charging All J1772 connectors in Australia are AC connectors (generally with 7.2kW outputs), with the US-market Type 1 CCS combo DC connector unavailable on Australian-delivered electric cars. Some vehicle inlets may contain the extra connections to allow the CCS DC-only charger (high-current DC) to be inserted. [17]

The AC vehicle charging inlets are mainly produced for PHEV vehicles. They can be used nationwide and are fully compatible with the existing charging infrastructure. These inlets allow the vehicle to be gently charged while stationary, generate charging power of up to 22 kW and meet protection class IP 45 during charging. MENNEKES offers specific solutions for available installation spaces. This IEC technical specification describes how vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets according to IEC 62196-3 can be used with cables with quite small conductor cross section if thermal management is applied. Thermal management uses thermal sensors and adjusts the current to limit the temperature rise of the cable assembly. Tesla Model S, X, 3, and the incoming Y will all use the Tesla network, with onboard AC inverters limited to 16.5kW in the case of the S and X, or 11kW in the case of the 3 and Y. IEC 62196-2 describes this configuration with an operating current up to 32A, allowing a maximum current of 80A only for applications in the US, where this higher operating current is also described by SAE J1772.Most EVs in North America now utilize a CCS 1 plug. Japanese automakers such as Nissan have transitioned from CHAdeMO to CCS 1 for all new models in North America. However, like the SAE J1772 Type 1 plug, Tesla has their proprietary charging standard for North America. A 3.6kW charger will take almost 7 hours to get fully charged with a 16 Amp charging cable. The MODE 2 type charging cables are manufactured in accordance with IEC 62752. They can be connected to the normal household infrastructure and generate charging power of up to 3.7 kW. The product is extremely user-friendly, as no further settings are required, and meets protection classes IP 44 (plug connectors) and IP 67 or 69k (charging modules) against dust and water. The robust housing guarantees drive-over safety and, among other features, the charging module allows multi-stage temperature management. MENNEKES offers customised as well as country-specific solutions - e.g. in relation to colour, branding, cable management and the infrastructure of the respective country. Extensive national approvals are available.

This allows so-called “Vehicle to Grid” energy flows, or V2G. If you have the right infrastructure, you could then power your house using electricity stored in the car’s battery. Alternatively, you can send car electricity off to the grid and be paid for it.

Compatibility and adapters

The Type 2 connector: the European standard for electric cars". Renault Group. 9 January 2020 . Retrieved 4 August 2022. The Type 2 connector can charge via AC using the seven-pin top connector, which is almost circular in shape, or when configured as a DC connector, known as a CCS (Combined Charging System) Combo, uses a three pin connector in the top port, and a larger dual-prong for direct current charging below.
