Description

Another song is often known as "Cocaine Blues" but is completely different; it is also known, in its different versions, as " Take a Whiff on Me" and "Cocaine Habit Blues". This song has three families of variants. Following metabolism, cocaine and its main metabolites are excreted in urine. EME and BE constitute the major excretion products, irrespective of the route of administration (intravenous, inhalation and intranasal) [ 74]. Moreover, approximately 1–3% of cocaine metabolic products excreted in urine are those resulting from N-demethylation to a norecgonine base, such as NBE, in addition to EC [ 24]. A subject who drank a cup of the Peruvian (4.14 mg cocaine) or Bolivian teas (4.29 mg cocaine) had, in their urine, a BE concentration of 3940 ng/mL and 4979 ng/mL, 10 and 3.5 h after ingestion, respectively [ 58]. People who use illicit drugs, especially when injected, are at increased risk for diseases like HIV, hepatitis C, skin infections and vein collapse. Impairment of judgement can lead to risky behavior, as well. NIDA has found that use of cocaine can speed up HIV infection because the drug impairs immune function and promotes replication of the virus. Marijuana showed a considerable decline in 2021 of 6.7 percentage points in annual prevalence, respectively, for the three grades combined. The COVID-19 pandemic is postulated to have affected the declines in drug use overall seen among youth. Cocaine use in pregnancy

In this study, both a short‐wavelength SCiO and a longer‐wavelength NIR device were used. A machine learning approach using SVM showed better performance on their SCiO data than a conventional LDA approach. Also, electrochemical tests that can overcome the specificity issues of the Scott test have been developed. In the mother, cocaine use can lead to a serious high blood pressure and spontaneous miscarriage. Pregnant women who abuse this drug may have other addictive habits, such as nicotine and alcohol use. Pregnant women with substance abuse and addiction should receive immediate medical and psychological healthcare to minimize these adverse outcomes. Cocaine is metabolized primarily in the liver, with less than 1% of the parent drug being excreted in the urine. Kienzle, Southwest Shuffle, p. 76 "... Billy Hughes, composer of 'Tennessee Saturday Night' and 'Cocaine Blues,' ..."

Yes, illicit cocaine use can be extremely dangerous and deadly. The immediate physical effects of cocaine use include constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, nausea, restlessness and increased body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Common strategies to correct for signal intensity and scattering effects are by means of data preprocessing. In our study, SNV processing proved to be a suitable technique for baseline correction (Figure 2A(ii)), in line with other studies. He is more likely to get cancelled for something like fat-shaming (accidentally, he insists) the band the Magic Numbers in 2005, who walked off Top of the Pops after he described them as “a big fat melting pot of talent”. Cancel culture, he says, “is such a big, complex subject. I think if somebody gets cancelled because they wrote a homophobic tweet when they were 15, and you don’t give them a chance to go: ‘I was 15; both my parents were homophobic and I didn’t know anything else’, the idea that you shouldn’t ever have a job because of that, when you may have grown up and completely changed your attitude, is preposterous. There are people losing careers over minor transgressions, and that is obviously where it goes too far. You can see people are getting very stressed about using the right or wrong pronoun.” But then, he says, “elements of it represent progress” for anyone who isn’t a straight white man. “There are people who say it doesn’t exist, who say you don’t have cancel culture; you have consequence culture.” Cocaine’s ability to interfere with the hepatocytes’ antioxidant system (e.g., SOD, GPx, catalase) and to depress mitochondrial respiration is well-known. A recent work by Mai et al., investigating the protective potential of GPx, exemplifies the cellular damage of cocaine (at 60 and 90 mg/Kg BW) in an in vivo study using mice. There were significant increases in SOD activity, ROS, protein carbonylation and lipid peroxidation, cleaved caspase-3 expression and intramitochondrial calcium, accompanied by a significant decrease in GPx. Examples of histological changes include hemorrhage, congestion, periventricular necrosis and hydropic degeneration [ 124]. Notably, enhanced expression of GPx protected the animals from having such severe outcomes, as did the depletion of p53 [ 125]. Another study investigating the influence of cocaine and its N-oxidative metabolites over mitochondrial respiration, determined that while cocaine had no influence over respiration states 3 and 4 or respiratory control ratio, the metabolites NCOC, N-hydroxycocaine and NCOC-NO • did impact mitochondrial respiration. It was therefore suggested that these metabolites are in fact responsible for the depletion of intracellular stores of ATP and ensuing cell death [ 126]. Furthermore, cocaine can stimulate a cascade of reactions, including caspase-3 activation and cytochrome c release, leading to hepatocellular apoptosis [ 62]. The study by Kowalczyk-Pachel et al., where rats self-administered cocaine (to the maximum of 185 mg/Kg), found that, compared to control animals, cocaine decreased the levels of reactive sulfur species, and sulfate levels were also impacted; similar to effects in kidneys, these alterations remained even during the abstinence period, and reflected the impact of cocaine over cysteine metabolism [ 108].Research has shown a connection between cytochrome P450-mediated cocaine bioactivation and the inhibition of hepatic metabolism, with the drug’s hepatotoxic properties. After the formation of NCOC (also catalyzed by flavin adenine dinucleotide-containing monooxygenases), it is oxidized in the liver, leading to the generation of oxidative metabolites (such as N-hydroxynorcocaine (N-OH-NCOC) and norcocaine nitroxide (NCOC-NO •)). The subsequent oxidation of NCOC-NO • forms a highly reactive cation, norcocaine nitrosonium, which binds in an irreversible manner to cellular proteins and causes cell death. Additionally, NCOC-NO • can also be reduced toN-OH-NCOC, contributing to the formation of free radicals, which will induce oxidative stress and ultimately result in cell death [ 62, 122, 123]. Johnny Cash famously performed the song at his 1968 Folsom Prison concert. He replaced the lyric "San Quentin" with "Folsom", and changed "C'mon you hypes..." to "C'mon you gotta listen unto me...", as well as using the then-provocative lyric "I can't forget the day I shot that bad bitch down." Cash also altered the last line to "Lay off the whiskey..." instead of "Drink all you want...". During the performance, which was released uncensored by Columbia Records in 1968 (though other language is censored), Cash can be heard coughing occasionally; later in the concert recording, he can be heard noting that singing the song nearly did his voice in. The process of “coming up with an angle, getting excited about it, gives me a high. I’ve had quite a few unnatural highs in my life, but it’s a real natural high.” He laughs, and adds: “The sort of high that I’m not going to get fired for!” At some level in our teens, 20s and 30s, we think we’re going to live for ever

In July 2018, about 24 hours after Richard Bacon quit his safe, but unchallenging, job as the host of a daytime US TV show, he went into a coma. When he woke up nine days later, he found himself not just the survivor of a lung infection that nearly killed him, but jobless. And so, 10 days after that, he was pitching his idea for a gameshow to the BBC. He remembers being in a bedroom at his mother-in-law’s house, trying on shirts to find one big enough to hide the huge plaster covering his tracheotomy wound, just so he could go into a room with commissioning editors and pretend to be a gameshow host. “I couldn’t find one, and then I just thought: ‘It’s been in the papers; they’re going to know I’ve just been in a bloody coma.’” A tiny pause, then: “The commissioners were very surprised to see me.” This disguised version of "Cocaine Habit Blues" was recorded by Freeny's Barn Dance Band in 1930. After the first verse, there is no similarity in the lyrics. Community-based recovery groups like Cocaine Anonymous uses a 12-step program that can be helpful in maintaining abstinence from cocaine.
