Description

There's a replaceable eraser under the push-button. Supplied fitted with HB Uni Nano Dia lead - which are another innovation - being stronger than any previous lead due to some clever nano-technology. Pentel – GraphGear 500: We loved the GraphGear 1000, but its little brother didn’t make the same impression. We found the 500 to be dull and fragile, with lead that breaks too easily and a lead changing process that’s too time-consuming. This one isn’t worth paying over five dollars for.

For draftsmen, architects, or designers searching for the best mechanical pencils, there are numerous options on the market.

Look at the clutch (the part at the front of the pencil body that holds the lead), is it moving freely? Are fragments jammed inside? Hold the pencil right-side up and push the button. Your lead will fall out, but so will anything that could jam the pencil.

The 0.3 mm tip size is perfect for detailed lines and marks but can break easily. In contrast, the 0.5 mm tip size is ideal for tasks that require greater precision, like drafting. But if you have a bigger handwriting and are not involved in precision work, opt for the 0.7 mm option. The Pipe Slide sports a sliding lead sleeve, and it also uses the “W Speed Engine.” This mechanical pencil is a good option for those who prefer a lightweight writing instrument, as it’s the lightest of the three Kuru Toga pencils with sliding lead sleeves and “W Speed Engines.” If you’re pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod, you can buy an eraser kit that includes one. Just makes sure that the rod is the right size for your pencil — that is, not bigger than the diameter of your lead. Smaller, say 0.3 mm for a 0.5 mm pencil, is OK though! With its modern, refined appearance, the High Grade model is ideal for professional settings. Its matte aluminum grip section has ridges that support your fingers as you write. You can still see the Kuru Toga rotation mechanism hard at work through a discreet circular window located in the grip of the pencil. The sliding lead sleeve is present on Advance Upgrade, Advance, and Pipe Slide variants. 6. W-Speed Engine

Dust can also cause pencil jams over time, as it can accumulate in and around the clutch and prevent the proper movement of the internal components. Kuru Toga pencils’ rotating engine prevent lead breaks but it also means there is a lot of play at the tip of the lead. Many people don’t like these pencils for this reason and instead opt for a traditional drafting pencil, like the Rotring 600, or for Zebra’s Delguard, which has its own anti-lead breaking mechanism. Types of Kuru Toga Pencils Have a mechanical pencil whose lead won’t come out? There is a good chance that your pencil is jammed! This can be annoying, but it’s usually easy to fix. Retractable vs. capped: Standard mechanical pencils are retractable, but if you want to look more polished in the boardroom, Pentel makes a capped version. Cost: Mechanical pencil costs can vary dramatically. But just like we learned testing pens, the most expensive isn’t always the best. You should be able to find a mechanical pencil you love for just a few dollars or less. The Kuru Toga eliminates this problem with the use of an ingenious lead rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. A spring-loaded clutch twists the lead incrementally every time you lift the pencil from the paper. This allows a uniform wearing of the lead to create a conical tip shape that provides a fine, consistent line. Open the clutch, either by pushing down the pencil button. Alternatively this might require pushing the pencil down (pushing the top button) while pushing a small collar down Grip: A pencil grip won’t necessarily make your pencil more comfortable to use, and some people actually find them cumbersome. But if you want a pencil with a big, squishy grip, we know the perfect one for you. Surprisingly, our testers found the grips on some of the higher-end mechanical pencils more uncomfortable — perhaps because they’re designed to keep your grasp firmly in place, but not cushion your hand.

Pencil jams can also be causes by using the wrong lead size. If you put 0.5 mm lead in a 0.3 mm pencil, you’ll certainly experience a jam, but not too many people make this mistake. It’s more likely that you might put 0.35 mm lead (like that from the Rotring Tikky) in a 0.3 mm pencil. That is why the Kuru Toga pencils are well-suited for drafting and sketching purposes where you need to fill in fine details. 3. Lead Grade Indicator The Kuru Toga comes in three tip sizes: 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm. We recommend the 0.5 mm tip size for most writers, as it balances precision with a smooth writing experience. The Uni Kuru Toga is one of the most popular mechanical pencils available today and comes in several variants, such as the regular variant, the Roulette, the Advance, etc. And each variant has certain features that distinguish it from others. What makes the Dive so special that there was a mad rush to buy them, and a continued 4-5x markup of them on the secondary market? Uni Kuru Toga Roulette is a premium version of the fantastic Kuru Toga self-sharpening mechanical pencil. The Rubber Grip version stands out from the other models with its rubber grip. Instead of a clip, this pencil has a circular knob which acts as a roll stop and adds to the sleek look. The knob is decorated with the Kuru Toga logo and is attached to the eraser cap; you can press down on either to extend the lead. The rubber grip isn’t squishy, but it offers a more tactile feel that is suited to writers with sweaty hands. These lead pieces are responsible for causing clogging, which is a very common issue with lead pencils from many other brands. 6. Three Different Tip Sizes
