After walking for what feels like another three years, I make it to the front of Danny/Donny's shop, whatever his name is. All the lights in the shop are off. Gathering my last little bit of hope, I take a closer look at the door. He remains quiet. Or he's ignoring my presence. He might've not heard me but for some reason, I think he heard me just fine. So he can say rude things to me but when I only tell him he's mean, he gets grumpy? No one leaves my presence unhappy.

I smooth out the skirt of my dress and watch as his eyes follow my movement. As soon as my hands let go of my dress, his eyes fall on mine.I open the door and faint music and loud talking reach my ears. There are a lot out on the floor with drinks in their hands and the rest are piled up around the actual drink bar, or whatever it's called. The closer I look around, the more I see the drunken people. One guy is tripping over himself and another is leaned up against the wall with his friend holding him up.

He lets go of my shirt, shoving me away from him. My knee gives out and I fall, landing on the coffee table. He lifts me down from the counter and I look down at all the drink selections under the counter. I spot the moonshine. I go for it. Or it could be something on my dress.
