The spicy scenes existed. There's a *lot* of them. And if that's all you're looking for? Read this. You'll probably like it. They're numerous and honestly, I wound up skipping them near the end. I need more than hot dirty scenes.

Sooooo this was my first "Best friend's dad romance" book and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I know I know you're gonna say something along the lines of "OMG KK isn't that wrong?" but listen this is dark romance, we leave our morals at the door. And if the pregnancy trope is a deal breaker for you she doesn't end up pregnant at the end of this book.... at least that we know of ;) When she’s not writing, Steele enjoys trivia with her filmmaker husband, watching movies and exploring nature trails. Steele was always a keen reader, devouring the works of many great authors, inspiring her as a storyteller in the process. This ignited a passion for writing in her, and she started to write her own stories. I didn't even realize this was the first type of book like this I've read until I was reading a very very smutty pool scene ;). I remember looking away from the book full on blushing and laughing, saying something along the lines of "OMG this is so naughty" and then it hit me. THIS IS A FIRST!!!! As she grew older, she was inspired by her hiking, her friends and her family. This has all come together in her writing, which is full of complex characters, passionate love stories and captivating settings. With a writing style that is truly unique, her stories continue to offer something for everyone. Readers can’t help but be drawn in by her stories, making them captivating and unforgettable.

I also felt it dragged just beyond the midway point. It wasn't really about JJ and Lena anymore. It was about their friends that I didn't care about anyway. The romance was a blazing inferno of lust and everything forbidden. And it doesn’t even matter that Callum is a very bad man with a horrible past and present; Bianca can’t stop the feelings she has for him even if she wanted to. They are both too far gone. The emotional connection between characters just wasn't there. There's a lot of the usual demanding and rawr, which is great. Except when the 'I love you' parts happened? I was like where, when did that happen? How? And it made it feel like...hot dirty scenes fix everything and love saves all. Lena is the reason I almost DNF multiple times. Immature. Indecisive. Brat. I was not looking for a brat, but I sure found one. I also really felt like her ethnicity was shoved into the book for inclusivity’s sake rather than it being culturally important to the character. It felt weird and awkward and served no purpose. I'm a big fan of inclusivity, but not performative inclusivity. The ending was severely abrupt and the ebook 'end' is at 91%. The rest is just a teaser of the next book and I won't be reading it so I didn't hit the 100% mark.
