Similarly struggling is Dougie, working hard in London as a photographer, not the creative portraiture he excelled at as a student, but catalogue shots for cheap clothing or gardening hardware. Princess Leonor's family album: Spanish royals release intimate photos charting future Queen's path from. The complicated and sometimes difficult relationship between Nell and her mother was quite moving to read about. Little Wing is the first book that I've read by Freya North and I was absolutely captivated by her beautiful writing.

I don't care what the weather does out there, because it has this incredible grandeur and brooding beauty whatever. Scott and Frankie go on to take a few risks, make several sacrifices, and discover new truths related to each other’s family and love as their relationship progresses. The choices that individuals made in past times because of societal pressures are always interesting to me. I felt it began perhaps a little too slowly, but as the story gathered pace, I became invested in Nell's story and found that I was drawn to it more and more. As I read on and got to know the characters better, I got used to the time jumps and in the end didn't mind it.At first, meditation frustrated me: being an author with an over-active imagination, I found anything requiring visualisations irritating. Set in Colchester, Camden and the island of Harris, Outer Hebrides, this is a tale that is achingly sad and breathtakingly beautiful. Nell leads a very spartan life and suddenly a Pandora's box is opened and she finds out she's not who she thinks she is - what would you do with that kind of revelation that most of your life has been a series of, if not lies, then hidden truths? In 1969 sixteen year old Florence Lawson finds herself pregnant and sent to an island in the Outer Hebrides to give birth so as not to bring shame on her family.

Best-selling author Freya North, whose new novel Little Wing, was inspired by her visit to the Hebridean island of Harris.Thank you to The Pigeonhole and to the author for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. The backdrop of the Isle of Harris, in the Outer Hebrides plays a starring role in this story and rightly so. There is however a strong romantic thread to the story, as well as tragedy, both of which are enriched by the wild beauty of a Harris setting. They gave me the opportunity to escape every single day into an imagined world, and that gave me respite from all the anxiety and worry of the real world. The Harris screenplay would just make the most marvelous TV with this extraordinary setting, quirky characters, it's a medical drama, and it's true.

Thoughtful themes include family secrets, finding answers, belonging, the true meaning of family, forgiveness, lost souls, mother/daughter relationships, supportive coworkers, friendship, compassion, and resilience. At first I resisted because there is still a stigma about medication — did it mean I was going nuts and had to be on ‘happy pills’? It's a quietly gripping story about family and belonging, and follows the story of three people whose lives intersect. The two main stories the author tells are full of twists and turns and superbly interwoven together. We can choose the thoughts we give thinking time to — we are in control of turning away from those that make us unhappy. Also, this is the second book I've read recently with a young mother raising a baby completely on her own in an isolated location and absolutely revelling in every minute of it. A novel about resilience, forgiveness and the true meaning of family, about finding one's place in the world and discovering how we all belong somewhere and to someone.
