Tron Bonne certainly counts. She created 40 Servbots on her own, is smarter than her older brother (who is a bit... odd), built the Gesselchaft as well as most of the Bonne machines; and to top it all off, in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne she gets a scientist outfit! To answer your question, I would argue that personal experiences can be irrelevant in an argument about race, depending on the context and if the personal experience is misinformed or somehow wrong in some way. In this case, I think those who are claiming this harms women are mistaken, and that they have not justified their claims of personal experience of harm with any evidence or argument that would give it precedener those who argue that this list does not harm them. Further, I see no reasonable mechanism by which such a list would harm the women through any fault of the list-maker. I can elaborate more, and I plan to in a blog post, of which I'll post a link here when I've filled out my argument a bit more. However, it's pretty assy to dismiss not just the intuitions but the actual experiences of a significant number of people who tell you (repeatedly), that they are harmed by X. To dismiss these experiences while saying, "No, give me an argument against X," is clueless at best. While every Team Fortress 2 class has somewhat of a fangirl following, The Medic is most definitely the biggest Mr. Fanservice. More a staple of movies (especially science fiction), but also appears regularly on TV. When a male protagonist needs to consult with or bring in an expert on some obscure and/or technical subject (poisonous orchids, particle theory, rare diseases, ancient languages, prehistoric sharks, whatever), said expert will turn out to be female, [[HeadTurningBeauty drop-dead gorgeous]], and, at twentysomething, [[ImprobableAge conspicuously too young to have possibly earned the relevant academic degrees or otherwise accrued such expertise]] (often this is {{handwave}}d by mentioning at some point that she was a TeenGenius). Not all of these are required, but the general gist is good enough.

In fact it is my personal experience that I know, from my own peer group, that the vast majority of people do not come to that interpretation, but this brings up the second issue. While I would argue that there are very few discussions about race - or gender, where such experiences aren't a very important part of the discussion, precisely because they may be misinformed - or can be subject to different interpretations. While sometimes the context of these discussions may be very obvious, the offense very overt, a lot of the time it is not so obvious - this case, in some ways, included. The personal experience and feelings of people who are part of a given outgroup being discussed are important, because ultimately that is what people should be basing future behavior on. Dr. Sarah Kinney, ComicBook/{{X 23}}'s creator/mother is this, justifying why Laura is TheUglyGuysHotDaughter to Wolverine. There is a reason you don't see pin-up calendars in workplaces anymore, and it's a similar reason to why I (a male, in case it's not obvious from my name) found that post offensive. Some of the commenters to PZ's post made the analogy to a pin-up calendar, and I agree that that's what this list is. Meet Dr. August, -ologist Jane Science. What does she do? I don't know, but the d00d who wrote that post thinks she looks hawt in a bikini.* A big part of the problem with the post is that the author provides no information whatsoever about the science these women are doing, for which they have spent many years in training. All we have to go on (in most cases; I recognized some of the women as current or former ScienceBloggers) is a name, a field, and a photo. If you don't think that trivializes their careers, you're not paying attention. Professor Fudo of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. As the man behind Momentum/Enerdy's discovey and implementation, he's also the main Protagonists' father, and the first Yu-Gi-Oh! onscreen blood-related parent that was shown in both Japanese and American anime. He's also the poster boy of the theory 'you can inherit your parents' hairstyles'.

Amanda from El Goonish Shive was definitely written with this trope in mind. Of course, she is the assistant of Horny Scientist Dr. Germahn, so she was probably hired with this trope in mind as well. Look, central to the project of being ethical is recognizing that it's not all about you. It is not enough to evaluate courses of action on the basis of first principles that seem plausible to you, or of actual experiences you have had -- how things impact others matters. That means that listening to what people are telling you about how X impacts them is a pretty crucial step -- one that ought to inform not just your thoughts but your actions. I know that Pepsigate was the trigger for an exodus from Sci Blogs, but it wasn't the sole contributor. I'm left wondering how much of that exodus was a result of a lot of little things like this: like blogging gossip instead of science.

Klaus has been shown to be capable not only of ruling all of Europe, but also satisfying Lucrezia's... appetites and dismantling a Humongous Mecha with his bare hands (sadly, not all at once). "Fit" indeed. Immortal Rain: Dr. Dora Folk - the psychopath scientist that has the looks of a model from one of those advertisements for men's clothing. An episode of the ''Series/LegendsOfTomorrow'' spin-off gives us Creator/JewelStaite as a cybernetics specialist named Rachel Turner. Ray finds out that she's his [[spoiler:brother's]] descendant. Though honestly, I am not inclined to hate on him all that much for doing so. I think that having an excuse to have the conversation is important. I also think that the harm is relatively minor, especially when the discussion it wrought is taken into account. The Periphery Demographic (i.e. perverted men) watching Futari wa Pretty Cure have taken this and run with it. Popular Fanon interpretation of Honoka plays this up highly, usually also merging it with the Horny Scientist (especially in Hentai of the subject).

Plot: The Star Angels are sent to the planet Phallus to prevent a takeover of Earth. I think that tells you just about everything you need to know. STAR VIRGIN (1979) Working with broadcasters internationally including the BBC, the ABC (Australia), Primedia (South Africa), Talk Radio Europe and Radio New Zealand, the professional audiovisual media created by the Naked Scientists team is syndicated globally to audiences exceeding a million people worldwide each week. Male example: The Doctor himself, since at least the Jon Pertwee version of the early 1970s, has had his share of admirers for virtually every incarnation. (Yes, including Jon Pertwee who is directly said to be "so damn sexy" - perhaps in an Austin Powers sort of way? - by a female fashion designer interviewed in the 1990s documentary More Than Thirty Years in the TARDIS.Gender-flipped with forensic scientist Dr. Colin Fibre in Garry Ryan's ''Literature/DetectiveLaneMysteries''. Fibre has NoSocialSkills and no concept of the effect his appearance has on others. Professor Anders from Halo Wars. Sure, the game left much to be desired, but she was pure Fetish Fuel.

No More Heroes has Dr. Naomi, whose figure makes some players wish they were chasing after her instead of Manipulative Bitch Sylvia. KAOS=] defector Dr. Canyon (the inventor of an invisibility serum) is Stein from Soul Eater. Somehow. The fact he's ridiculously muscular doesn't hurt one bit. 'Healthy soul in a healthy body', eh? But I suppose their personal experience with being objectified in the blogosphere and strenuously objecting to it - then it happening again on the post being discussed - are completely irrelevant to the discussion.Inui Sadaharu from Prince of Tennis is a male version, being both surprisingly good looking (despite the Scary Shiny Glasses/ Nerd Glasses) and amazingly intelligent. And all evidence points towards him only getting better in both regards as he grows older. He's kind of a budding Mad Scientist... what? Nerds Are Sexy! Halo Legends does this to Dr. Halsey, the genius behind the MJOLNIR and SPARTAN projects, despite her being sixty. This could be explained by the fact that she spent a lot of that time in cryo-sleep, but it contradicts her description in the novels. The only logical explanation would be artistic license. If you want more women to be scientists, you should offer them evidence that they’re not alone in their ambitions. And that should be the headline of your campaign. Once everyone realizes that women can be spoken to exactly the same as men, we’ll stop running into these ridiculous faux-pas and get down to what really matters. A so-called “Nudie Cutie” film about astronauts landing on the moon and finding it inhabited by female nudists. This was actually famed sexploitation director, Doris Wishman’s first movie. THE SEX MACHINE (1975) CSI also has a periodic Hot Scientist, a forensic anthropologist that Grissom tries to call in to consult at every available opportunity.
