Description

Draw and label a ‘before and after’ diagram of the Iron Man. Start with a picture of the Iron Man at the top of the cliff, then a picture of the Iron Man after the fall. Use evidence from the text to carefully label your diagram. Be a ‘Word Detective’ and search for examples of powerful verbs in Chapter 1. Explain how the verbs are used. Sort them into groups; verbs that describe activity and verbs that describe stillness. Can you use any of these verbs in sentences of your own? The Iron Man, illus. by George Adamson: “English language textbook with Japanese annotations” by Yuuichi Hashimoto. Tokyo: Shinozaki Shorin, 1980 I think nobody knew the Iron man was falling as I do not think anybody was at the beach at the time so nobody saw the iron man fall he was also far in the distance so nobody saw him. If people saw him the just probably thought it was just a old pile of junk falling of the cliff. The Iron Man, illus. by Laura Carlin. London: Walker Books in collaboration with Faber and Faber, 2010 ISBN 978-1-4063-2957-5 Use the comprehensive range of vocabulary cards and writing frames to help children work on their literacy skills and reinforce all the important lessons in the story. The word cards would be a fantastic aid to children when completing writing activities.

Look at these examples for inspiration: Faber and Faber published a new edition in 1985 with illustrations by Andrew Davidson, for which Hughes and Davidson won the Kurt Maschler Award, or the Emils. From 1982 to 1999 that award recognised one British "work of imagination for children, in which text and illustration are integrated so that each enhances and balances the other." [3] [4] The 1985 Davidson edition was published in Britain and America (retaining 'giant') and there were re-issues with the Davidson illustrations, including some with other cover artists. Yet the novel has been re-illustrated by at least two others, Dirk Zimmer and Laura Carlin (current, Walker Books). Ch 3: How the Iron Man felt about being in the scrapyard. Ch 4: What the Iron Man’s idea to save the world from the space-bat-angel-dragon might be After finishing the story you could talk about: Favourite parts of the story and anything your child wonders about. Milan: Biblioteca Universale, Rizzoli, 1977 I think the iron man is a good character because he was only trying to get some metal to eat . So that is why he ate the farmers tractors . However , I think that the iron man is a bad character as well because he ate the farmers tractors without asking . If the iron man has asked then they could have given spare metal to the iron man , that wouldn’t have caused a problem .Think about the properties of different materials. What might have happened if the ‘Iron Man’ was made of wood, plastic, fabric or jelly? Plan an experiment to test the strength of different materials.
