No doubt about it: Government-sanctioned assassins Will Robie and Jessica Reel have never fail to get the job done, even when it comes at great personal cost and a smattering of collateral damage.

I hope we don't get stupid relationship drama in the form of the sheriff winding up pregnant with Will's child in the next books, because I do not pick up these action/thriller/suspense novels to get angsty relationship shit in the process! David Baldacci is back with another in his hard-hitting Will Robie series, which matches an impactful thriller with some social commentary.

Together, the sexual tension seems almost unbearable, but it does not detract from the plot and cutthroat nature of the mission. The only part that I thought Baldacci may have actually written would have been the ending battle, which was the best part of the book. Learning of a troubled childhood, Robie and Reel discover new respect for the man who has been leading them on numerous missions. But still a solid mystery action thriller by the always dependable David Baldacci from his incomparable Will Robie series.

However, the plot itself was not very intriguing this time, and its many sub-plots/story-threads were too much scattershot all over the places.Robin and Reel make consistently stupid choices in the plot, which is a shame considering how smart I know these characters really are. Sent to investigate, Robie and Reel arrive in the small town of Grand to discover that it has its own share of problems. After taking and completing rather strenuous jobs in both London and Iraq, government agents/assassins Robie and his partner Jessica Reel are tasked with finding out what happened to their boss, Roger "Blue Man" Walton, when he disappears in his hometown in Eastern Colorado.

Similarly, it doesn’t matter if you’re meeting these characters for the first time in this latest installment as Baldacci does a great job at introducing them to us via James Bond-esque style opening sequences. This story allows Baldacci time for the growing relationship between Robie and Reel, a clever, different, well paced, action packed thriller. That’s what I felt the end was about – Reel’s acceptance in the face of their boss’ confessions and actions. Also, if you like political mysteries and thrillers in general, the series is a good one (just probably not the best ever). The town is run by a tiny police force and populated by two distinct organizations: a collective of Neo-Nazis and a New Age group who refer to themselves as the King’s Apostles. When Reel and Robie arrive, they find a town with a stagnant economy, an understaffed police force, and camps recruiting people with dangerous ideologies.
