What I love about Oogie Boogie Bash is that it’s one of the only times you can dress up like your favorite characters. Oogie Boogie is a villainous character from the movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas." If you're looking for a costume that goes well with Oogie Boogie, you could consider dressing up as one of the other characters from the movie, such as: Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged. If you do try and wear these, your costume may be subject to additional screening and you may not be allowed to enter the park. I really wanted to make a costume that was original and not popular but that people would instantly recognize. The funny part is that I had no concept of how I was going to make this oogie boogie halloween costume. It had been rolling around in my head for a few days before I actually committed. First step, was fabric! With the sheer number of people present each day at the Bash, the chances of being injured by someone’s costume increases.

I tried to do the fabric eyes that you could see through, but the fabric was gathering too much and it was a major mess, so I just shaped the eyes with the sharpie and I evenly colored in where the eyes would be. You can either paint your own bugs on your Oogie Boogie halloween costume using acrylic paint or hot glue some fake ones on. I did both. As an added precaution I used clear fishing line to sew the plastic bugs to the costume so they would not fall off. You can also use some extra pieces of burlap thread to glue here and there to the costume to make it look like his stitches are coming loose. Yep, that means we’re going to spare you the rest of the song, even though we know you’re already singing it. Why? Because why sing the song when you could do a full send into Halloweentown instead? Now, to make the mask, I did the same ridiculous thing where I laid the fabric over his head and I thought about the ghost tip on top, and where the face would go to the sides and I used a marker to mark where the eyes would go. Then a straight line for the placing of the mouth. Costumes shouldn’t contain any weapons or anything that looks like it could be mistaken for an actual weapon. Obviously fake swords are fine, but anything that looks like a gun? Don’t even go there. His costume had to be scary but also cute! Although I love adorable costumes, I still felt strongly that I wanted this costume to embody the true essence of Halloween!
