Description

The author himself appears at various junctures to enhance the narrative flow with dramatic prose and the band themselves are present and correct with their trademark fantasy style space rock full of chugging extended riffs and overblown swishy synthesizer abuse. The annals of a country were usually kept according to the years of the sovereign's power, and not those of the Christian æra. Partly because of the chaotic personnel policy with more than 50 ex-band members (including Lemmy from Motörhead) apply the albums from the early 1970s, recorded with a somewhat stable line-up, as their best.

Feb 1994: Griffin Music, GCDHA0136-2, USA 2CD includes reprint of Michael Moorcocks Elric novel "The Dreaming City". A live chronicle is where one or more authors add to a chronicle in a regular fashion, recording contemporary events shortly after they occur. The same event may be recorded under a different year in another manuscript of the chronicle, and may be cited for example as " ASC MS D, s. The double album, originally released in 1986, was a recorded document of the band’s ‘Chronicle Of The Black Sword’ stage show of 1985, based on the Elric series of novels by Michael Moorcock. The group applies as inventors of the ' space rock: psychedelic and hypnotic rock full of drugs-and science fiction references. The 1985 album ‘Chronicle of the Black Sword’ forms the basis for this live set but Hawkwind wove other songs related to the subject at hand into this on-stage rock opera (very loosely related in some cases) in an attempt to tell the story of Elric. Former manager Douglas Smith had set-up GWR Records for releasing albums by his roster of bands, significantly Motörhead. Before the development of modern journalism and the systematization of chronicles as a journalistic genre, cronista were tasked with narrating chronological events considered worthy of remembrance that were recorded year by year. Although Brock had previous financial disputes with Smith, he was unhappy with the promotion and distribution his albums were receiving through Frenchy Gloder's Flicknife Records, so licensed this live recording to Smith's newly formed company.

This is in contrast to a narrative or history, in which an author chooses events to interpret and analyze and excludes those the author does not consider important or relevant. The group promoted the album's release with a 31 date UK tour in November and December, with support from The Babysitters. Atomhenge, the home of Hawkwind’s catalogue from 1976 – 1997, continue their series of definitive re- issued editions of these classic albums with the release of ‘Live Chronicles’. The group revived the Black Sword show one last time on 28 August 1987 for the World Science Fiction Convention at Brighton Conference Centre. It is well known that history, in the form of Chronicles, was a favourite portion of the literature of the middle ages.Obviously not a patch on the early live gigs like space ritual but well worth checking out if you don’t know it. Release comes in a Fatbox with a collector's reprint of Michael Moorcock's "The Dreaming City", plus four unreleased tracks. The album is certainly an uneven ride, which is a particular quality that applies to pretty much everything Hawkwind have done.

The overblown theatrics are naturally rather cheesy, the subject matter needs to be approached with a healthy dose of irony and the trademark Hawkwind sonic attack isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, the Encyclopedia of the Medieval Chronicle lists some 2,500 items written between 300 and 1500 AD. Some are written from the chronicler's direct knowledge, others from witnesses or participants in events, still others are accounts passed down from generation to generation by oral tradition. The earliest medieval chronicle to combine both retrospective ( dead) and contemporary ( live) entries, is the Chronicle of Ireland, which spans the years 431 to 911. The appointment of the official chronicler often favored individuals who had distinguished themselves by their efforts to study, investigate and disseminate population-related issues.Copyists also changed chronicles in creative copying, making corrections or in updating or continuing a chronicle with information not available to the original chronicler.
