Using 5 GHz at close range, the U6-Lite and U6-LR are faster than Wi-Fi 5 access points by around 10-20%. 2.4 GHz performance is not improved. Even though the new Unifi 6 access points don’t support WiFi 6 on the 2.4 GHz band, we can still see a clear improvement in speed between the old and new models. The new U6 LR is slightly faster than the U6 lite, but you won’t see many differences here. Overall, Wi-Fi 6 will help the battery life of your devices, help deal with Wi-Fi congestion, and improve real-world performance. Unfortunately you need most of the devices in the range of your network to also support Wi-Fi 6 before you see all the improvements. Wi-Fi 6 Speed Improvements

For most home networks is the Unifi 6 lite the best choice, it’s fast enough, reasonable priced, and not too big. The nanoHD covers are really great when you need to place the access point in sight. The U6-LR does offer more performance and range, but it is also almost double the price of the U6-Lite. Deciding between them depends on a lot of factors, especially if you’re comparing two U6-Lites vs. one U6-LR. If maximum range and speed is your top priority, step up to the U6-LR. If you’re unsure or have a smaller area to cover, the U6-Lite is a good default option. The U6-Lite doesn’t support 160 MHz channels with the two firmware versions I tried. The other models do, so I tested them for comparison. I wouldn’t recommend using 160 MHz in a typical 5 GHz network. There’s only 2 effective 160 MHz channels in 5 GHz, and they both intersect with DFS. Also, using 160 MHz channels reduce their 4 spatial streams down to two. That said, I did manage to nearly match gigabit Ethernet speeds in my controlled scenario. In this extreme situation, a single gigabit uplink became a limiting factor. This is especially true for the U6-LR.

All these improvements really benefit the performance and battery lifetime of your devices. Keep in mind though that your clients need to support WiFi 6 to fully benefit from these new features. Unifi 6 lite vs Unifi 6 Long Range

The Ubiquiti U6-Lite WiFi 6 Access Point delivers up to 1.5 Gbps aggregate radio rate with 5 GHz (MU-MIMO and OFDMA) and 2.4 GHz (MIMO) radios. You can mount the U6-Lite horizontally in the ceiling to cover a high-density environment, or mount it vertically on the wall to extend its range. UniFi 6 Lite has a compact and nano-sized design, so it can use nanoHD covers and mounting accessories (sold separately, see accessories tab). Key Features Without the advantage of 4 spatial streams or Wi-Fi 6 enhancements, the U6-Lite falls behind. I couldn’t get my MacBook Pro to associate to a 40 MHz channel on any of these APs, so I excluded those results from this test. I believe Apple uses the “ fat channel intolerant” setting on their devices. As always, 5 GHz is the best option for speed, and 40 MHz channels on 2.4 GHz should be avoided in most situations. I don’t recommend using 40 MHz channels in the 2.4 GHz band, due to them overlapping with over 80% of the already-crowded spectrum. There’s only one non-overlapping 40 MHz channel in North America, and the rest of the world only has two. Like 160 MHz channels in 5 GHz, there’s just not enough available frequency for them to be reliably used in most situations. You can install them on walls, but then they won’t have the same coverage. The signal goes mostly sideways in a donut shape.

The Unifi 6 Lite and the U6 LR are the first WiFi 6 access point from Ubiquiti. And even though they are both WiFi 6 access points, they are completely different when it comes to size, specifications, performance, and usability. Good the know is that WiFi 6 is only supported on the 5GHz band on both models. We see this also with other manufactures, that they only upgrade the 5GHz band and not the 2.4GHz band to WiFi 6. That doesn’t mean that you won’t see any performance improvements on 2.4 GHz. As the test will show you, they are actually a bit faster than the old models on 2.4 GHz as well. For the best results, directly connect to the “server” to the same switch as the access points are connected on.

So us hard for me to belive that (from specs) a 6lite 26db Tx will do the same with a 6lr 30db Tx in range And even though the congestion is bad the connection is ultra stable, no link drops at all, while the router from isp was really struggling (which made me buy the ubiquity ap) In my home network, I was already using the normal Unifi Lite and LR model, so in this article, we will compare the old with the new models. U6 Lite Cover (Black)

Both the AC Lite and 6 Lite are 2×2 MIMO radios, dual band supporting 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The AC Lite has 3dbi of gain on both antennas with a max output power of 20dBm on both frequencies, whereas the 6 Lite has 2.8dBi of gain on 2.4GHz and 3dBi on 5GHz with a max output power of 23dBm on both frequencies. My 6lite if is set to Eu countries has under 20db TX even on high setting(26 beeing the max from spec sheet)….and is waay worse than a RT AC68U set to 26db both on 2.4 and 5ghz. Even in close proximity on wifi analyzer ac68u is better.

One of the advantages of WiFi 6 is that it allows devices to use the same WiFi channels by breaking up the channel into smaller groups (Resource Units). This way more devices can communicate at the same time. Other improvements are MU-MIMO in both downlink and uplink direction, Target Wait Time, Dynamic fragmentation, and more. So having the 2 pc’s of the old LR model, living in a small village with “plenty” off free wifi channels – Then there is no point in upgrading?The rate of overhead varies with modulation and coding rate. With a strong signal, less redundancy is needed, and throughput improves. It’s always a tradeoff between redundancy/integrity and throughput. Here you can really see the performance improvement of the new U6 LR. The speedtest are done on 40Mhz for the 2.4Ghz band and 80Mhz for the 5Ghz band. The performance improvement of the U6 lite is between 20% and 30%.
