Learn about DisplayPort over USB Type-C, also called USB-C and it's advantages. Find information about how to identify if the USB Type-C port on your PC supports DisplayPort USB-C Alt Mode display output should also provide support for USB Power Delivery (USB-PD). If your laptop supports USB-PD (and many do), you can charge your laptop and output to a monitor with a single cable. The USB device that you connected to reported a problem, or there’s a problem with the device driver. Make sure your PC, the external display, and the cable all support DisplayPort or MHL alternate modes.

Your PC might not provide enough power to the USB device. Please connect your device to external power, or try using a different PC. USB-C connectors that support the DisplayPort over USB-C will normally include the DisplayPort (DP) logo near the connector. This USB port doesn't support DisplayPort or Thunderbolt or MHL. Plug the USB device into a different USB port on your PC.

For USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort over USB-C cables can provide up to 100 watts. This is convenient for laptop users, as it's possible to maintain your laptop's charge via the connection to the monitor, meaning it's unnecessary to drag the charger around with you. The DisplayPort Alternate Mode lets you project video and play audio on an external display that supports DisplayPort.

The Alternate Mode feature must be supported on the PC's hardware and software, and the connected device or dongle. You might also need a specific USB-C cable. It is crucial to consider the video output quality on your laptop in relation to your 4K monitor/display's refresh rate. For instance, if your laptop supports 60 FPS (frames per second), but your 4K display has a 30Hz refresh rate, you will only see 30 frames. This discrepancy can result in screen tearing, where the display combines two frames into one, causing distortion and affecting your viewing experience.A cable is the simplest option if your device doesn't support video output over USB-C. Direct cable connections are fast, easy, and reliable - simply plug in the cable, and you're good to go. However, these cables can be expensive and may not be cost-effective for infrequent use. Additionally, video output quality may be reduced due to bandwidth limitations, especially if your source device doesn't support Display Stream Compression (DSC). Some cables also require external power, adding extra cost and complexity. The MHL Alternate Mode lets you project video and play audio on an external display that supports MHL. And I also bought the following cable in the hopes that I could use it to connect to the monitor from my PC (using gtx 1080 -- it doesn't have type-c -- only display port and hdmi).
