Salicylic and trichloroacetic acid work from the outside in, corroding the hardened layers of dead skin. Acid treatments work best after you’ve softened the verruca by soaking it in water, and may need helping along with an emery board or pumice stone, to rub away the hardened dead skin. Bazuka Treatment Gel presents 12% salicylic acid and 4% lactic acid in an evaporative collodion-like gel which forms a cohesive and adhesive film on the skin. The formulation is presented in a collapsible aluminium tube fitted with a special applicator nozzle allowing the formulation to be dispensed precisely to the affected areas only. This minimises the spread of the preparation onto the surrounding healthy skin, which could otherwise lead to inflammation, irritation and poor patient compliance. The ugly mark you see on your skin is actually the virus’s defence mechanism. It creates excessive skin to cover itself up, and over time these layers and layers of dead skin get compacted, which makes them painful and increasingly hard to treat. Children under 12 should be treated under adult supervision and treatment of infants less than 2 years is not recommended. Based on the cryotherapy freezing technique used by doctors, Bazuka Sub-Zero freezes the verruca or wart from first application. It’s fast to use, and effective. Start by soaking the verruca or wart in warm water for at least 6 minutes. Next, dry the area using your own towel to avoid spreading infection. It is very important that you assemble the device properly and ‘charge’ the special foam applicator If you need to freeze a wart or verruca more than once, allow an interval of 2 weeks, and do not freeze the same one more than 3 times in total. Then, file the infected area using an emery board or pumice stone. Next assemble the applicator, so it’s ready for freezing. To charge, steady the device on a flat surface then press down firmly on the safety cap for 1 second. Hold the activator cap down on the surface with one hand and remove the device with the other, taking care not to overturn the cap.

However, despite the precision applicator, it’s all a bit fiddly to use. You have to keep the applicator in a vertical position, push and twist to release the gas, and then keep it in place for a full 40 seconds. Not easy when treating the underside of your own foot! But this may be just the thing to finally kill that stubborn wart on your hand. Systemic absorption of salicylic acid or lactic acid after application of the recommended daily dose of one or two drops of the preparation to small, circumscribed areas is exceedingly unlikely. Acid treatments use salicylic acid or trichloroacetic acid to eat away your wart from the top down, burning through the dead skin. That may sound nasty, but acid treatments are relatively gentle, and can take a couple of months to remove a stubborn wart. At the end of treatment, if the elastic film is difficult to remove, it may be allowed to remain on the skin until it sheds.
