Description

Effortlessly continuing where Clash of Empires ended, the reader is thrown straight into the action once again as we see the conflict through the eyes of Felix and Demetrios, young men on opposing sides of the struggle between Rome and Macedonia for the control of Greece. Particularly fascinated with the Macedon army life and pankration being a popular activity within their ranks. The writing was described rightly by my husband as “brilliant” and you really are engaged with the entire story even though this is a quite a sturdy book. The multi POV is something that Ben Kane is a master at, especially in this series, we see top down views from the leaders of each army and also bottom up from the soldiers.

The only comment that made me chuckle was the claim that Thermopylae was the only battle where the Macedonians and Greeks allied against a common enemy. TWO HEROES PREPARED TO DIE Fighting on opposing sides, Felix and Demetrios think they have survived the worst of the campaign. Charismatic as ever, he raises another large tribal army, which will harry the Romans the length and breadth of the land.Five years in college followed – a great time was had by all – and then a career in veterinary started. The battles that take place are both detailed and savage but I really did have to stand back and admire the tactics and battle plans of each side. There isn't always someone on our side to help us get through the day or to help us through tough times at work or at home, but if we want our teams to be there through thick and thin we have to realize that we're all human.

He has skillfully managed to bring the bloody battle field to life so that the reader feels that they are actually there. The Falling Sword” continues the struggle between Macedonia and Rome, the same four main characters giving a wide ranging scope and depth to the conflict from the rulers to the soldiers.

This is part two in Kane’s Clash of Empire series following the original book which was cunningly entitled. As with the previous book in the sequence, this one tells the story from each side of the conflict, allowing us to explore how Philip and Flaminius saw each other - and their various allies. Even if I disliked Flamininus and some of the soap-operaish theatrics that went with him, the broader story continued to hold my attention. These are the Falling Sword runes as chosen by level 70 Crusaders who are currently playing the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on PC or Mac in patch 2.

The characterization is very good, and the historical aspects are well covered, while further fictional subplots are introduced. The only time all of Greece (bar Sparta) and Macedon were even nominally unified in war was under Alexander. If you haven’t, pick that one up now because we get little reintroduction to these characters and their backstories. My quibble is that, as is typical from authors from the English speaking world, he never bothered to consult Italian historians. Ben Kane is the author of nine consecutiveSunday Timestop ten bestsellers, with over million copies of his books sold around the world.
