I've already reviewed the first half of this volume as the Secret of the Petrified Tablet epic collection, so this is just for issues 86-104, and since the epic collection for those isn't published yet I'm dropping this here for now. appears in The Amazing Spider-Man: The World’s Greatest Hero along with the other legacy title point release that came out at the same time: The Sensational Spider-Man 33. Anyway, other than that, I think it blends spectacularly well with the classic series and is a must for Spider-Fans. Effectively a sequel to the Michelinie/MacFarlane omnibus and the Spider-Man MacFarlane omnibus combined.

This issue is a bit better, though Gwen falls into a few of the traps that Peter did in the previous issue. I was actually a little worried about the art with Gil Kane penciling and John Romita inking, but the destruction of the plant and the dizzying fall at the end really show that the art works well. it also increasingly focuses on parker's homelife and the many ways that his double identity causes him (and those around him) significant misery. This is a really fantastic collection of college-era Spider-Man stories, with the few really weak points falling more heavily in the earlier issues with Spectacular. The point-one issue of Spider-Man branched from the Dying Wish storyline to act as backdoor pilot for a short-lived Morbius series in Marvel Now. The Marvel “-1” flashback month occurred here; Spider-Man stories from ASM, SpM, and SenSM were all set in flashback near Spidey’s debut.

Morbius’ backstory is a kind of haphazard remix of the Lizard’s, but the Lizard/Spider-man team up is pretty neat, and the art team does a great job making a variety of unique locations. This one’s remixing things, but it’s been a longer time since we’ve seen Spidey try to make money by being on TV, so I think the second attempt is warranted, though no Uncle Ben reference?

Somehow I had a lot of trouble with those mid-00s OHCs of Spider-Man, as I was missing the “Best of” series too until a reader pointed them out. He shows a great skill here in capturing Peter Parker's/Spider-man's voice as well as the voices of the supporting characters around him. Busiek has worked on a number of different titles in his career, including Arrowsmith, The Avengers, Icon, Iron Man, The Liberty Project, Ninjak, The Power Company, Red Tornado, Shockrockets, Superman: Secret Identity, Thunderbolts, Untold Tales of Spider-Man, JLA, and the award-winning Marvels and the Homage Comics title Kurt Busiek's Astro City. The Schemer trilogy ends rather badly as I feel like both the Kingpin and Spider-man act rather out of character here. I think this omnibus is fun, and I didn't hate reading it save maybe 5-6 issues out of the huge amount, but it was more of a up and down series.

All I can say is that these stories definitely ARE classic, but because of when they were collected the list is a very 90s-centric view of what comprised the best of Spider-Man. Collects roughly the equivalent of the first three Clone Saga trades, but only the main Spider-Man series – none of the side minis or one-shot specials.
