The S5II and S5IIX both feature 5-stop in-body image stabilization (IBIS). Handheld, I was able to drop my shutter down to ⅕ sec without any blur from camera shake, which came in useful given the relatively narrow maximum apertures of the 20-60mm kit lens. Panasonic also announced the Lumix DC-S5 IIX, a variant with a more extensive video feature set, which will arrive later in the year. Key specifications

The fan means the S5 II can record for unlimited periods in most of its video modes, as tested by Panasonic at temperatures of 40°C (104°F). Panasonic points out that most of its rivals only quote figures for 22–25°C (72–77°F), which is significantly less demanding and less representative of average temperatures across much of the US. Video The start-up time is slightly sluggish compared to many cameras, perhaps taking a good 2-3 seconds before we are ready for action, but once up and running everything is crisp and efficient and the controls are responsive and have a high-quality feel to them.

New to the S5 II X is Wired Streaming up to 4K/60p and FHD/60p Wireless IP Streaming, and SSD recording via USB-C 3.2 which enables full sensor Apple ProRes recording internally up to Full HD at 60fps 422 HQ and full sensor Apple ProRes recording externally up to 5. 8K/30p 422 HQ with a hefty data rate of 1.9Gbps. The S5 II includes a fan mechanism, to allow video shooting for extended periods. The fan is at the top of the camera, with vents under the leading edge and along the sides of the viewfinder hump, drawing the heat up and out of the camera. As usual, the fan sits outside the body's sealed area, so the vents aren't a weak point for its dust and splash resistant design. The S5IIX performs impressively for high-speed photography. Using two UHS-II V60 cards, the S5IIX was able to shoot RAW & Fine JPEG in continuous high-speed drive for over 200 shots. That’s nearly 7 seconds of 30fps shooting with the e-shutter, or over 22 seconds at 9fps using mechanical shutter. Even after 200 shots, the buffers weren’t totally filled. I wasn’t able to view my burst photos straight away, but could carry on taking single photos as the camera wrote the image to cards. This is great to see, as it could make the difference between missing or capturing a crucial ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ shot at, for example, a wedding.

Motion pictures with 400Mbps or less: External USB-SSD, SD memory card with Video Speed Class 60 or higher The vari-angle hinge also means that the screen can be made clearly visible whether the camera is in portrait or landscape orientation. The LUMIX S5IIX and S5II also boast an upgraded image stabilisation system to greatly enhance handheld shooting in a wide range of conditions and situations. The new Active I.S. provides highly stable video recording by optimising horizontal, vertical and rotational correction. Compensating as much as 200% 2 compared to conventional stabilisation, Active I.S. is especially effective in traditionally challenging conditions for handheld shooting, such as using telephoto lenses or filming while walking. Panasonic has also improved its image stabilization system, promising a performance twice as effective as in the S5. For its revised system it's adopted the branding 'Active IS,' though it hasn't been very specific about how these improvements have been achieved. When the camera is used at recommended operating temperature 0-40 degrees C. 6K and 5.9K at 30p/25p video recording stops once when continuous recording time exceeds 30 minutes if [Thermal Management] is set to [STANDARD]. The LUMIX S5IIX features a 24.2MP full-frame sensor. If you are shooting stills, 24MP delivers highly detailed shots, with enough resolution for moderate cropping and for online display or small-to-medium-sized prints.
