I will be frank though. This camera is sold for too much for what it is at 899 euros with the kit lens (plastic body, no PDAF)... I didn't pay that though. I took advantage of the 899 euros with kit and 75mm 1.8. With that deal, it was definitely worth it for the video and ability to fiddle with colors (again, in video). I've dumped the idea of shooting jpeg- DXO PL5 ruined it for me, in a good way (ISO 3200, no problem and it looks like ISO 200). I agree on the 3:2 aspect ratio screen (still better than 16:9 though), but I think the higher resolution makes up to it somewhat. AFAIK this is no longer a problem in the newer Olympus m43 models. It's an issue on the E-M5 and may be an issue on some of the other Oly m43 cameras that use the Sony sensor, but it's not an issue on the E-M1 (Panasonic sensor), and I'm pretty sure they've figured out how to avoid the issue on their more recent camera models. I certainly haven't heard any complaints about it on later m43 models.

Thanks for the reply. It would seem that the E-P7 is certainly light enough, but it's not GM1 light or size. The E-P7 is for the person who has 1 camera that's usable and could be taken anywhere. I have a GM1, but the camera is a little fiddly for me- the E-P7 isn't and even compared to any PL- series PEN, it's much better with that extra dial and an extra customisable button. Also, it's better built than the PL PENs. Further to the right is the tactile shutter release button, with the Olympus PEN E-P7 readying itself for action in a second or so.If you’re a beginner then you’ll find the Olympus PEN E-P7 easy to use, as you can simply leave the camera in the Auto modes, letting you use it as a point and shoot, with easy to use on-screen controls. If you venture beyond this you’ll find that the camera features full manual controls, as well as a variety of advanced shooting modes that you won’t find on many other cameras. Olympus claims that the Pen E-P7 enables the shutter speed to be reduced by up to 4.5EV below a normal safe hand-holdable speed. My tests find that to be an accurate assessment. With the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12–40mm F2.8 Pro mounted and at the 40mm end for instance, got around 50-60% of my images acceptably sharp at a shutter speed of 1/2.5 sec. At an effective focal length of 80mm, a shutter speed of 1/2.5sec is a 5-stop reduction. I even managed to get one image in ten sharp with a 1sec exposure time.

Digital IS (Image Stabilisation) is on by default and part of the IS settings, so that you have options of M-IS 1 (IBIS and Digital), M-IS 2 (IBIS only), and IS Off. The Olympus E-P7 can record 4K movies at 30p, 25p, 24p and Full HD movies at 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, 24p. There's also the ability to capture high-speed VGA footage at 120fps. The best bridge cameras offer a high-end experience without all the costs that come with a DSLR or mirrorless camera and their interchangeable lenses. We explain what you need to know I was fairly proud of my E-PL5, but with the current marketing, I should feel embarrassed to ever pull it out." Thanks John... I had a nice answer but blogger wiped it when I pressed publish... OMD missed an opportunity of having one of the most exciting street photography cameras. It's minimalist, basic menus, top IQ, NOOO viewer, all plastic (why not EM10 III quality)...

The last option on this tool bar is an on-board shooting hints and tips manual, with the usual 'suspects' of photographing children and pets given the most prominence ('take a picture at their height level' being a summation of the level of advice imparted). We even get tips, as a bit of closet advertising, for attaching Olympus accessories, such as lens converters. That said, for me this camera is to expensive. I don't mind the slightly bigger size of M10 - especially when this size really comes from features (EVF, dials/buttons, grip), not from poor design. I would get the M.

Face and eye-detection AF works extremely well, Model: Lucy Woodroffe, 1/80s, f/2.0, ISO800, 45mm f/1.8 lens, raw to JPEG conversion using ACR. Thank you Siegfried. Do I understand it properly? Does this mean you can set the color profiles in the photo mode and then use them in the video mode? On my EPL-9 I can do this. Actually any effect will be applied to video if I press the red button and start recording video. I am on the verge of buying E-P7, but wanted to be sure. Would greatly appreciate if you could test this for me. Naturally you are welcomed to follow my journey, I can even post my creations here (as links to Vimeo and YouTube). The Sony ZV-1 is a new compact camera that's been built from the ground up for vlogging, with a vari-angle screen, fast auto-focusing, three-capsule direction microphone, and a wealth of vlogger-friendly shooting modes. Is this the ultimate camera for aspiring YouTube creators? Read our in-depth Sony ZV-1 review to find out... Review RoundupOMDS added the Pen F Colorand MonochromeProfilesfunction to the new E-P7. We also see features like the Color Creator, Highlights & Shadows (Curves), ART filters, and many others in the E-P7. The Pen E-P7 makes one wonder, did OMDS target the E-P series for its simplicity and elegance? Unless you already own lots of Micro Four Thirds lenses, it certainly makes sense to buy the E-P7 with the bundled 14-42mm kit lens. A good walk-around lens, primarily because of its ability to retract into itself to save space, it's part of a system that gives you access to a huge range of additional optics. It would be nice if these different colour treatments could be more unified so that they can be accessed, activated and adjusted in the same way. Also, do they really need three different names? The Art Filters and Color/Monochrome profiles are effectively Picture Control modes with a few additional options such as the ability to add a frame or vignetting – depending upon which one you have selected. The menu system is similar to that of the professional OM-D E-M1. This is a complex, multi-level menu system that might not seem intuitive at first sight, especially to beginners, so reading the manual is a good idea before starting to explore it. This article is about released in 2021. For released in 2014, see Olympus PEN E-PL7. Olympus PEN E-P7

The latest model adds several significant improvements over its predecessor, not least a revised shutter mechanism, a full control dial on the top plate and a 3:2 rear display. The shutter mechanism reduces the image shake that has blunted the appeal of previous models while the addition of a control dial should enhance the experience for users wanting to take control of the camera. The squarer display, meanwhile, is a better balance between the shape of the camera's stills and movie output - meaning more of the screen is used. The EP7 is the first ever camera released under this new ownership, although it's probably fair to assume that it was mostly developed by Olympus rather than OM Digital Solutions. If you need compact and light and can forsake the speed, there's always the bargain-priced polycarbonate-cased 40-150.

It captures shots with an impressive dynamic range, while the all-purpose metering system does a good job of producing balanced exposures. That’s even the case when working in the harsh conditions of mid-afternoon sun in the middle of summer - in other words, typical travel photography conditions.
