Gradually they come to terms with their grief by remembering all the practical things Badger taught them, and so Badger lives on in his friends’ memories of him.

They don't know how to handle their grief, but as the days go by, they each begin to remember special things Badger taught them to do, and they take comfort in those abilities and exchange stories of happy days with Badger. Badger’s Parting Gifts not only shows us that our deceased loved ones live on through warm and loving memories of them but also when we share with others the things they’ve taught us when they were still alive. When he passes away all of the other animals grieve their dear friend Badger and throughout the story they remember all of the wonderful things Badger taught them when they were growing up. The book also has great pictures and illustrations it uses subtle colours and tones to portray the feeling and mood of the book. Badgers friends remember one by one what he had taught each of them, and his friends learn to take those lessons and cherish it as a good memeory of badger. Despite the obviously sad theme that runs through this children's book there is an element of hope and happiness that comes from what the animals say about Badger. Once the story has been read to a group of children this would then enable the themes to be explored as a vehicle for questioning, communication and discussion.

Furthermore the use of animals as the characters can be comforting to children rather than the characters being human. It gives them a comforting way, just like the animals had, to remember their friend for the happier times rather than the sad. In allowing themselves to remember their friend with positivity rather than sadness it helps them begin to move on, an excellent message for children. These ended up being the very last words I whispered in my mother's ear before leaving her for the night. This is a gentle and tender book—one that could start or continue a conversation about grief and loss with a child.Badger’s Parting Gifts is a story about a Badger who wishes he could still run around with his other friends Frog, Mole and Fox. My favorite part in the book is Fox’s memory of Badger, in which Badger showed Fox how to tie a knot properly. Their grief seems endless to them and never ending, until they begin to remember all the great memories they have of their time with Badger. Simply, I wanted to thank you for all the ways that Badger and his friends Mole, Frog, Fox and Rabbit have touched my heart and my life. The Book is about a Badger who knows that he is close to the end of his life but he is not scared about dying.
