As a result, newborns tend to focus more on things that are close to baby’s face, and they will often study objects by looking at them closely. However, due to baby’s eyesight being not fully developed, everything they see will appear blurry or fuzzy to them. These cards offer unique features to suit the needs of children. They provide opportunities for sensory exploration, develop fine motor skills, stimulate cognitive development and enhance visual perception. Children can engage their senses, learn through play and develop key skills for growth.

Sensory flashcards with high contrast images are a great tool to promote visual development in babies.

These cards are very important for a baby’s cognitive development. Babies use their eyes to understand the outside world till the age of 5 months as only after that do they start using their other senses to explore the world around them. Sensory treasure hunt. Hide the cards around a room or outside. Encourage people to find them by using clues or their other senses such as touch or sound. This activity boosts cognitive skills and provides tactile and visual stimulation. You may notice that your babies eyes are crossing or wandering. As a new mother this may be concerning to you! I know the first time I noticed it, I was a bit worried! It is comforting to know however, that this is a typical response and not something to be concerned about.

If you are looking for physical high contrast cards – I would say go for these ones. you can go for high contrast books for babies that are available here. Incorporate movement with the cards. Attach them to mobiles or create simple games that involve flipping, tossing, or sorting. This engages visual senses and promotes motor skills & hand-eye coordination.

Ideally, place these cards within 20-30 cms for your baby to start focusing on them. They might focus for a couple of seconds initially but slowly they would get habituated to it as they grow. When you’re using the cards with your baby, talk to them about what they’re seeing and ask them questions about the shapes and patterns on the cards. This helps to build their language skills and cognitive development. What do you do to encourage your baby during tummy time? We would love you to share your thoughts over in our Facebook group.
