Description

Through various winding story segments, we follow Abaddon and Vashtorr’s hunt for the key fragments, and the assorted forces opposing them – including not only Imperials but xenos races too, most notably the Tau Empire‘s Commander Farsight. If you select this objective, during the Resolve Pre-battle Abilities step of the mission, set up one additional objective marker in your opponent’s deployment zone, then your opponent must set up one additional objective marker in your deployment zone and one additional objective marker within 6" of the centre of the battlefield. These objective markers cannot be set up within 9" of each other, within 6" of a battlefield edge or within 3" of another objective marker. These Take Your Places objective markers represent the positions your HARLEQUINS must take up for their performance, but do not count as objective markers for any rules purposes other than for this secondary objective. This Detachment is incredibly flexible and will work for all factions, though there will be a couple of specific additional rules to it to allow for unusual armies like Drukhari and Dark Angels forces, that would previously have usually been made of multiple smaller detachments. The Arks of Omen have sown terror and death from one side of the galaxy to the other. Despite the efforts of those who opposed them, their masters have gathered enough arcane artefacts for Vashtorr the Arkifane to fashion his monstrous Key. The hour draws nigh when the daemon and the Despoiler will between them awaken this engine of terrible power.

A space hulk is an immense amalgamation of stellar debris, starships, and other detritus that have fused together after having been collected together in the warp over the course of millennia. These vessels are at a scale that’s difficult to fathom, potentially hundreds of miles long and consisting of vessels that can be older than the Imperium itself. When the vagaries of the warp unleash them into realspace, they often are infested with all manner of horrors and monstrosities that have been corrupted from exposure to the raw energies of the warp. Others may be filled with Orks hell bent on turning the hulk into the vehicle for their next great WAAAGH!, or Genestealers patiently waiting centuries for the opportunity to descend upon an unsuspecting world and form a psychic beacon to draw the Great Devourer. In the hands of Vashtorr and Abaddon, they are purged of a significant amount of their taint and reborn into Arks of Omen. Months later, as Abaddon oversaw the continued repairs to his flagship the Vengeful Spirit, the data-tome proved to be a portal that allowed Vashtorr to manifest on the bridge directly in the presence of The Despoiler. Upon meeting, Vashtorr presented Abaddon with a prophecy of a burning sky and stars blazing bright enough to drown out the darkness. He was candid with The Despoiler, declaring that while the ruler of the Forge of Souls, he was unsatisfied with his status and wished to become a fifth Chaos God in his own right. Vashtorr believed this could be achieved if he could fulfill this prophecy, and offered an alliance with Abaddon. The Despoiler was unimpressed, and Vashtorr bid that they move together on the nearby world of Magdalor to demonstrate the value of an alliance where the next fragment of the mysterious “ Key” lay. Warhammer Community: Warhammer Day Reveals – What Are the Arks of Omen? (posted on 8 October 2022) (last accessed 5 January 2023) Need a larger re-roll bubble? Take two Captains . A double-dose of scythe-slaughter? Recruit Typhus alongside a Lord of Contagion . Aeldari looking to reignite the War in Heaven? Show them who’s boss with two C’tan Shards . The third action is Set to Defend , which is performed at the end of the Move Units step of the Movement phase and takes effect at the end of the player’s turn. This is like the fight version of Overwatch, and gives you a +1 to hit in melee during your opponent’s next turn. If your Arks of Omen Detachment is a CHAOS Detachment, you can include one CHAOS KNIGHTS Super-heavy Auxiliary Detachment (containing one DREADBLADE unit) as an Allied Detachment. At the Onalpa System, the Ark of Omen Colossus translated into local space. Boasting a huge compliment of Traitor Titans, the Balefleet scattered the defenders as Dark Magi and their servants descended upon the rich worlds of Onalpa to sate their greed. This proved an opening which allowed the Ultramarines under Chaplain Julianos to board the ‘’Colossus’’. While nearly every Ultramarine of the boarding party was lost, they succeeded into causing an engine meltdown to destroy it. Meanwhile, Eldar Corsairs of the Diamond Talon boarded the Ark Devourer of Hope, crippling its command center. [1d]It’s great news for armies that rely on Vanguard, Outrider, or Spearhead Detachments to maximise a particular Battlefield Role, as they’ll now be able to take more of (almost) everything else alongside their preferred units. You’ll even get some extra Elites slots specifically for CHARACTER units, so a crucial Apothecary , Ork Mek , or Sister Dogmata won’t steal space from your big hitters. Honestly my opinion is that this rule set should have been released as a booklet in a White Dwarf and then they could have drip fed the rest of the Faction-specific content over the next few issues. I doubt we’ll see any FAQs or a second print run of the Boarding Action terrain set for this series which is a shame because it looks like a lot of fun to play. So maybe organize a whip round your gaming group and chip in for the terrain and the books?
