When you paint straight over walls, the porosity could impact the coverage. Even with the best primer, you'll probably have to apply dozens of coats to accomplish a pretty, patch-free finish. Conventional lining paper has been used by decorators for years, in many cases with great results. That said, the clear advantages of paste-the-wall lining paper can’t be denied. Marking a straight horizontal line on the wall, so you can hang the lining paper straight, overlapping and trimming off any excess. If you hang lining paper flush against the ceiling you can be left with gaps as walls are rarely perfectly straight. What grade lining paper you use on a decorating project will be determined by the condition of the walls, how much preparation is needed and whether you are going to paint or wallpaper over the lining paper. Whatever your query, we’re here to help. In this post, we’ll provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about lining paper. WHAT IS LINING PAPER AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

None of it's by the book, I know... But we're loving the work so far and just trying to come up with solutions that we can manage and that keep costs down. All input on why the ideas are good/bad much appreciated!Divide the height of the wall (WH) by the width of the roll of lining paper (LPW) to get the length of lining paper needed for the wall (LPL).

I've had good results so far by using Easifill on the marks. It goes on easily and is easy to sand to a really smooth finish. It's so good, in fact, that I'm considering using it across the whole walls. Would this be an option? Already tried a few slightly larger areas and looks good... Just a really (really) thin layer all across to fill all of the holes and get a smooth final result. Obviously skimming would be preferable, but the flat's 125m2, the budget's tight - and so far, this looks like it might work... Or really bad idea?

HOW TO HANG LINING PAPER

PS. Rereading your post, forget the skim coats, fill the deeper stuff and as much more as you like and move on. It is a 110 year old flat ... either go for venetian plastering or wallpaper it

If you're new to lining paper, don't worry. Keep reading as we run through everything you need to know about this must-have decorating tool. What is lining paper? However, if you do have crumbling plaster, try to clean and repair the wall before putting up the lining paper. If you're unable to patch the plaster, you may need to remove the loose plaster, fill the hole or area with browning or bonding plaster, and then skim over it. A plasterer may be required if this is beyond your DIY skillset. Once you have done the first part of the strip, fold over a 50 cm pasted section onto paper that has already been pasted and repeat until the whole strip is done. This creates a concertina effect that looks a bit like the top of a Viennetta ice cream. I am a fun of toupret which may be more available in Germany than is in the UK. See: http://www.toupretpro.co.uk/products/pr ... .php?pid=6 Measuring your wall and doing some calculations. By doing these calculations you can avoid being left with a very thin strip of lining paper to hang at the base of the wall.

Thankfully, lining paper is the answer to your wallpaper woes. It dries much faster and absorbs most of the moisture to eliminate unwanted movement. 6. Protecting against wear and tear Lower grades like 800-1000 are the best choice if you’re redecorating walls that are in a decent condition and you want a smooth surface to make things easier. Multiply the total from Step 5 by 1.1, which will add 10% to allow for excess that you will hang and trim off (E). The adhesive required also varies depending on whether you’re hanging paste the paper of paste the wall lining paper.
