Employing EOS grants you a notable competitive advantage. Traction inherently assumes that your business will experience growth, and by embracing this framework and concentrating on the Process Component™, you position yourself favorably from the outset.

Great leaders have a habit of taking quiet thinking time. That means escaping the office on a regular basis for an hour or so. By working on yourself and the business, you will rise above feeling frustrated and overwhelmed to a clearheaded and confident state. I’ve met with many good people who are facilitators of this system, and sat down and talked with them in-depth about it. Each of them encouraged me to become part of the organization. The first component of the EOS™ is your vision. Most entrepreneurs have a vision for their company, which they assume everyone else can see as well as they can. But many times, others in the organization don’t see it—and when people are confused, they go in different directions and visions can’t be realized. Vision: You need a compelling vision for your business that you communicate clearly so everyone can focus their energy on it and help you achieve it. Use the Vision/Traction Organizer™ (V/TO™) to crystalize your vision on paper. Use these 8 questions to define where you’re headed and how you’ll get there, and distill them into simple points that can be clearly communicated. (i) What are our core values?

Emphasizing culture and people is a “pull forward” method of business development, rather than a “push down” approach, which is the system in the book’s approach. Again, if an organization is starting from scratch, or just needs some fine-tuning, this may be all it needs. Who This Book IS For—And Who IT'S NOT For Who It’s For Step 1: After reviewing the vision, list things that must be accomplished in the next 90 days to move toward your vision. Narrow the list to three to seven priorities. Traction: Traction—the ability to execute, or make the company’s vision a reality—requires two things: 1) 90-day priorities for everyone, and 2) regular, focused, productive meetings at every level. The most important things get done first. Quarterly meetings focus our attention on our problems/Issues and we then dive in to details to identify and resolve the real underlying issues.

The combination of vision, people, data, issues, process, and traction—the Entrepreneurial Operating System—positions your company to achieve your vision. Step 5: After the company priorities are set, each leadership team member should set their own priorities, including the company priority they “own.” Some items on the brainstorming list that were dropped in step 2 could become individual priorities.Entrepreneurial Operating System — EOS). He borrows (with accreditation) ideas from betters who were more effective at explaining them. His tools may be revolutionary in practice, but come off as pedantic in written form. Without an objective third party managing the human element required for success in TRACTION, I have a difficult time seeing how the toolkit wouldn't create dangerous rabbit trails for a leadership team. Part of the problem is you’ve become so wrapped up in your business you’ve forgotten that it’s separate from you. To reach the next level, you need to build it into a self-sustaining entity, powered by an effective system rather than just your determination. Because this system will work for some businesses, but is not a panacea for all businesses, and may disappoint, I give it a rating of 3 stars. An organization can only become the best version of itself to the extent that the people within the organization are striving to become better versions of themselves. Step 3: Your core values are among the characteristics you listed. Combine similar values and narrow the list.
