Description

I absolutely loved this book! It's dark, it's fun, it's sexy (in a YA way, don't worry) and it's mysterious. Vivid descriptions and details smoothly bring this story and world to life. I also loved how the complex world-building was delivered in bite-sized pieces and merged with the unfolding story. In-your-face honesty and fierceness season the instantly appealing 1st person POV. Compassion, melancholy and a sense of justice are also mixed in. The narrative is intimate and in synch with what she is feeling and her thoughts. Her siren tendencies, the way she tastes emotions and her murderous inclination are described aptly. This is a passionate story of a protagonist we should consider a villain, a beautiful 'monster' to be afraid of, though we can't help but love her. Can she fight her nature?

The romance was terrible. I did not understand Hayes' attraction at all. I can cope with insta-love, usually it even works quite well as it'll speed up the narrative and keep the story engaging. However there was actually zero reason for him to be remotely interested in her. Fine, we'll ignore the insta-love. Then why does he continue to fall harder for her throughout the book, he doesn't know anything about her and she isn't kind to him at all. But alright, we'll accept her dark and mysterious intrigue is enough. She killed his best friend and lied to his face about it, that should've been an instant end to any attraction and Gabi Burton clearly realises it because she tries to explain why he still loves her, but it falls flat as it makes no sense whatsoever.Saoirse is at war with herself — her natural instinct as a siren is to kill and she hears that small voice in her mind constantly demanding it of her — and that struggle is one of the aspects of her character that make her so intriguing. What will she choose? Is it her nature that makes her do what she does? Or is it that deep down, she actually wants to do it? We sympathize with her struggle and read on to see if she will win her battle or succumb. Saoirse is a character that I was invested in from the very beginning, and I can’t wait to see where her adventures take her in the sequel. The other benefit of Saoirse’s ability to taste emotions is the incredibly detailed language that this allows Burton to infuse into the novel. Emotions have colors, scents and flavors — happiness is sweet, lust is spicy — and as the reader we are given another layer through which to experience this tale: taste. This level of sensory language and worldbuilding is not something that I have experienced much of in any books in recent memory, and it is a wonderful addition to the story that Burton is weaving, one that makes the book all the more enjoyable. Descriptions of our characters surroundings on the other hand were just non - existent. The story starts out in a pub for example, but do I know how it looked like?? Nope. Same with Characters, I guess one dude's cheekbones looked like glass, whatever that's supposed to mean. Not sharp like glass, not cut like glass, just glass. Guess our poor man was just see-through. And everyone's eyes were a different crystal colour, but that's as far as we get.

I would recommend it to fans of sirens and readers who enjoyed The Cruel Prince and To Kill A Kingdom' Netgalley - 5 star review

i received a digital review copy from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. this did not affect my rating. It was the author's voice and Saoirse that really shone in the book for me. Absolutely captivating!! Which suits a book about an irresistible siren! 😁 Saoirse should hate Prince Hayes. After all, his father is the one who enforces the kingdom’s brutal creature segregation laws. But when Hayes turns out to be kind, thoughtful, and charming, Saoirse finds herself increasingly drawn to him―especially when they’re forced to work together to stop a deadly killer who’s plaguing the city. There’s only one problem: Saoirse is that deadly killer. There is a love interest in this story. The my problem with this love story is that again it is the love story between 2 underage children, and it is a toxic relationship Hayes forgives Saoirse for murdering dozens of innocent people, Including his best friend, because he's "selfish". Just because she didn't use her siren powers on him doesn't make this a good relationship or a cute love story. Its all really disturbing.

I feel like she could also get arrested for all Spektryl’s crimes, and the prince has to break her out or something. Dami Olukoya does a brilliant job of creating a natural, authentic voice that conveys the content and emotions within this story. Besides this, the different character voices made the listening experience even more engaging and entertaining.Wow, that was really easy to unknot. Super convenient that they didn’t tie her hands together. This book is idiotic. Sing me to Sleep is a strong and compelling novel th Saoirse doesn’t know, and it’s not her primary concern. She is more concerned with keeping her and her sister’s identity secret, for if anyone realizes Saorise is a siren, she’ll be put to death. For sirens are known to have an insatiable desire to kill.

Only fae, witches and humans live in the Keirdre kingdom. The fae are the superior ones led by the Royal family. Witches are second but mostly banished to the outskirts of the kingdom, and humans are the lowest class, working as servants. And then there is our main heroine Saoirse who is a siren in disguise as an ikatus (a fae in the looks only but with no real power or affinity for the elements) because sirens are dangerous, and their existence is illegal...... and she's the only one left. In the second book in this dark and seductive YA fantasy duology, a siren must decide if saving her kingdom is worth betraying the boy she loves. The Cruel Prince meets To Kill a Kingdom in the first in this dark YA fantasy duology, in which a siren assassin must join forces with the prince she hates to hunt a deadly killer – herself. AD|GIFTED} SING ME TO SLEEP tells the tale of the last siren in Keirdre and her new role as bodyguard to the Crown Prince. Saoirse appears to be irritable, aloof, and arrogant but she represses a lot of her emotions due to self-loathing and the numerous secrets she is forced to keep. She's also a murderer (and sometimes an assassin) thanks to her irresistible Siren nature luring her to kill. It's hard not to feel sorry for a child/teenager left without any kind of training to control her impulses though.

How would that prove that it’s actually poison if it doesn’t affect her? Oh my god, these villains are so bad. What's it About? In this dark and seductive YA fantasy debut, a siren must choose between protecting her family and following her heart in a prejudiced kingdom where her existence is illegal.
