The tent is quick and easy to pitch – the inner and flysheet pitch together and inner and flysheet pegging points are combined to speed things up. This is aided by a pre-clipped internal flysheet, and sturdy V shaped alloy pegs, so no infuriating moments dealing with bent ones. One was the fact that the end pole holders split after 4 nights and for the rest of the tour were held in with gaffer tape.

Ultralight also can come with a degree of fragility, and especially for UK conditions I’m happy to carry a little more weight and sleep more soundly on a sturdy groundsheet. However, whilst very neat and tidy, this method of packing can create permanent creases in the fabric, weaken the waterproofing and eventually split the fabric of your tent.

Starting at the door, you get a midge-proof door with mesh covering the top half to allow ventilation and light to pass through. This place is interlaced with amazing gravel tracks, single track, quiet roads and bog (for those that like that kind of thing). It's ideal for backpacking, cycle touring, mountain marathons or simply a lightweight tent for 3 season camping.

We highly recommend the use of a footprint with all tents to prolong their life, improve waterproofing and to keep the groundsheet clean.This was used to keep the outer door open if good weather as there is no toggles or anything to do this, so the door just flaps about when open unless I am using the awning method.

The Zephyros Compact 1 tent blends low weight and trusted performance, to provide a versatile lightweight tent for one person. We lay there, in an admittedly quite noisy tent, wondering if we’d wake up in the early verses of the book of Genesis (that’s the Noah bit, FYI), but however much the rain lashed down we remained cosy and dry, although woken fairly regularly by enormous flashes of lightning nearby.Despite the snug nature, my partner and I could quite happily lie and read books, or play small travel games after sunset without too many contortions, but it’s not really a tent to hang out in. Wild Country footprints are sized to fit under each models flysheet and attach to the tent’s pole feet using shockcord loops. If you simply attempt to pull the pole out, they’ll disconnect inside, the elastic will stretch and then spring back, potentially trapping the fabric of your tent between the pole sections. For me there comes a point where I don’t like paying too much for my outdoors gear, as it starts to sit in the back of my mind that I shouldn’t be rough with it. I can only imagine you’d need a more waterproof tent than this if someone put a gun to your head and told you to pitch up under Janet’s Foss for the evening.

Pitching takes only a matter of minutes with one pole that runs through the middle of the tent and 4 reflective guy lines. Replaced the standard pegs with titanium ones and have added an extra guy line to the rear after an extremely windy night on top of The Cheviot.
