Boosting hydration. While each facial cleanser has a different purpose, one of its common goals is to cleanse and deliver moisture to the deeper layers of the skin. Facial cleansing helps balance your PH level, by producing sufficient moisture and water retention.

Another household name in Japanese homes, the famous Hada Labo foaming cleanser is another super-moisturising cleanser that doesn’t strip the face of oils. It comes out as a milky texture that is filled with ingredients to easily break down the dirt barriers on the face. SoftyMo Deep Cleansing Oil is one of 3 oil cleansers from Kose. This is one of my personal favorites, though I prefer the “ white ” version below. (Before you come at me for promoting “white beauty standards,” please see my post on Japanese whitening cosmetics for more information as there’s a lot to cover on that topic!)An oil-based cleanser is typically the first stage in the Japanese skincare routine, and the following products are designed especially to easily remove all traces of makeup. Kao Biore Makeup Remover Perfect Cleansing Oil Start with dry hands and a dry face: Japanese cleansing oils are typically designed to be applied to dry skin, without pre-wetting your face. Make sure your hands are clean and dry before starting. It immediately removes stubborn make-up whilst rejuvenating the skin. Many people have claimed that it not only cleansed their skin, but also improved it!

The only potential downside is that it may not be suitable for those with very oily or acne-prone skin, as it may leave the skin feeling slightly oily.

Gentle formulation: It is formulated to be gentle on the skin, making it suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin. To get the most out of your oil cleanser, use it as the first step in the double-cleansing process, which should look a little something like this: Massage your oil cleanser gently into dry skin, wipe everything away with a cotton pad, muslin cloth, or clean wash towel, and marvel in that strange satisfaction of seeing how much product you just sloughed off your face. With your skin clear of top-level grime like makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum, and environmental pollutants, your second cleanser can more effectively do its job of cleaning out your pores. Follow your cleansing oil with a water-based cleanser, like a gel or foam. Still not convinced of the wonders of Japanese cleansing oils? Cleansing oils are effective in removing sweat, sunscreen dirt/pollen, makeup, and dead skin cells. You can also use them to deep clean your makeup sponges, brushes, and puffs! Which one of these Japanese cleansing oils would you like to try? Which ones would you add to this list?

HADASEI-3 COMPLEX: Tatcha's proprietary trio of Japanese superfoods—Green Tea, Rice and Algae—helps to restore healthy-looking, youthful radiance. Maintain healthy and clear skin. Taking care of your skin brings you a step closer to clearer and healthier skin. Washing your face is no exception, it is important to thoroughly cleanse your skin to maintain visibly clear and healthy complexion. Proper skin cleansing clears pores to prevent dirt build-up, allowing the sebum oil to reach the skin surface and decreasing the chances of a breakout. Natural oils like horse oil and olive oil and derived from plants and animals. These oils are just like the sebum our skin glands produce so it’s easy for it to blend in the skin. Japanese cleaning oils with natural oils can be slightly more expensive when compared to esters and mineral oils. But you can rest assured that they’re worth it (especially for those with dry, and sensitive skin) as Japanese oils with natural oils are easy and extremely gentle on the skin. With that said, Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil is comparable to DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. However, it has a lighter texture and is far more affordable. It’s very good at removing most makeup. Plus, it’s formulated with 5 different moisturizing ingredients (shea butter, jojoba oil, sesame oil, safflower oil, and olive oil).In the world of Japanese skincare, you may find that there’s a greater emphasis placed on the cleansing step. This would make sense given Japan’s general affinity towards cleanliness in general. In fact, the Japanese language uses the same word for both “beautiful” and “clean”: kirei. Gentle formulation: The Minon Amino Moist Milky Cleansing Gel is known for its gentle formulation, making it suitable for sensitive and delicate skin types. This is a fragrant “one step” cleanser that doubles as a makeup remover and facial cleanser. It has a fabulously silky smooth texture that glides effortlessly on the skin. The formula contains 8 different botanical oils, including Japanese tsubaki oil. (If “tsubaki oil” sounds familiar to blog readers, you’ll know that I swear by camellia/tsubaki oil products to take care of my natural hair!).

Deep cleansing: It deeply cleanses the skin, removing dirt, impurities, and excess oil from the pores, leaving the skin refreshed and clean.

Don't miss a thing

Also, something a lot of people don't consider: Oil cleansers are equally effective for cleaning the rest of your body, especially if you find that most soaps and shower gels tend to dry out your skin. You'll find a great choice that was designed specifically for use on your body on this list. We’ve gone and done the research for you, and have listed below the top 12 best Japanese face washes and cleansers!
