But in my testing, the results were pretty wildly variable, and I just couldn’t trust the data enough to use it on a regular basis.

You set the launch monitor behind or to the side of your ball on a range, garage, or simulator – and either in a compatible app or on the device itself, it gives you all of the info you could want to know about a golf swing. This is by far the easiest device on the list to use. You turn it on, you set it next to you, you hit. With the X3, you can set up multiple camera feeds and then sync the multi-angle video with radar data on every shot. One of the biggest problems with using the Mevo is trying to figure out how to properly place your phone so that you can easily access and view the data, or position it for using the camera (more on that in a minute). Not that it’s even all that old, but the user experience doesn’t feel quite as modern as it does on some of the apps of competitors like the R10, or even its big brother the Mevo Plus. The GC3 is also available under the Bushnell Golf brand as the Bushnell Launch Pro, which allows you to pay for certain features through a subscription model instead of paying the full cost up-front. I found the app very intuitive, and pretty much anything I wanted to adjust could be done in the settings section.

Spin measurement accuracy can be greatly improved indoors by using Titleist Pro V1 and V1x RCT golf balls. When it comes to the world of golf technology, I’m not sure there’s a single product segment that has evolved further in the last five years than launch monitors.

You get the same Vision software that’s used on their high-end simulators but with a launch monitor you can use both at home or on the range. But in my testing, the SkyTrak+ might provide the best overall user experience if you’re building a home simulator. But the question is, are these more affordable FlightScopes actually worth the still considerable expense? Are they accurate? Will they actually help you with your golf game? Every detail in the swing is captured with the highest precision, including the location of impact on the clubface. A total of 27 parameters can be delivered in real time, including all the ones you’ve come to expect from a launch monitor. Key parameters measured include ball speed, launch angle, azimuth, spin-tilt axis, and total spin. With the Clubhead Measurement add-on, you get a large amount of additional club head data as well.

I then turned on the Mevo which I’d charged overnight, and I immediately watched the screen in the top right of the app switch from Disconnected (red), to Connected (Blue), to Ready (green) in a total of about 10 seconds. The highly rated Garmin Approach G80, from the same company behind the Garmin Approach R10, is a unique product.

Some launch monitors, like the Full Swing KIT or Mevo Plus reviewed above, work best outdoors (e.g. on the range) where the ball can take its full flight. Others, like the SkyTrak+ or EYE XO, are better suited for indoor use because of camera-based technologies, simulation capabilities, or space requirements. The R10 rests on a tripod mount and is placed 6-8 feet behind the ball. It’s considered a portable launch monitor and can easily be moved from the home to the driving range or wherever else you want to set up.

Fun– It sounds weird, but some launch monitors are simply more fun to use than others. Either through their user experience or extra features, this is one of my biggest considerations personally. Have you ever wanted to know which launch monitor Tiger Woods uses? That would be the Full Swing KIT, an advanced radar-based launch monitor built at Woods’ request and according to his standards. Most importantly, I want to (must) be able to play multi-player with my children and grandchildren. I’ll play solo when I have too. However, this doesn’t affect the usability of the device at all – it’s very intuitive to use. Is the Flightscope Mevo Data Accurate? You don’t want to find out the bad news later that it can’t accommodate your intended use. 4. Features & Apps Having this much confidence in the data I got from the Mevo is huge for really being able to rely and lean into this as a true training tool. And unfortunately, since there isn’t any lateral data, it’s tough to truly get a sense of how your accuracy is improving – especially if the thing you’re working on is fixing a swing flaw like a slice.
