There is virtually no background, it looks as though only the minimum to get the story across has been done, it really does look amateurish.

Got this for my nephew he dreams of playing for England, absolutely footy mad has all the strips and balls, but this is something to keep, really nice idea and was impressed by the quality of the artwork. Whatever age Rocky is supposed to be there, lets say he's around 19/20, a bit like young 'uns Beckham and Giggs who burst onto the scene at young ages.Roy of the Rovers became synonymous with the Tiger comic and during the 1960's Tiger had a circulation of over 300,000 copies. Favourite was Roy of the Rovers though with a shout out for The Topical Times Football Annual each Christmas. Scorcher and Score, which were separate comics, before merging, then merged with Tiger and latterly became Roy Of The Rovers. Fair play is emphasised, and there are exhortations toward purportedly higher ethics including encouraging boys to join the army during the First World War.

Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. The first ever had Bobby Moore on the front cover and Franny Lee was on the back , might still have it in the loft somewhere. A single page dealing with 1930s football stories notes three moonlighting film stars and Steve Bradshaw, whose alternative skill was cracking safes. After an invitation to attend One Tournament a special National football tournament, the tournament plays out every young boys dream. Boys comics started to regularly include athletes of all stripes during the first half of the 20th century as participation and attendance at sporting events increased substantially, with footballers emerging as the clear favourite. It's funny to think how I really looked forward to Shoot, ROTR and Scoop as we were so starved of any football related stuff.

If I remember right they were two comics and you had Jack of United and Jimmy of City who were brothers. A wealthy aristocrat who often turned up half way through the game, chauffeur driven with Angora wool sweater to save the day. Within a year and a half it had been joined at the hip with Score magazine (the “football-themed comic” rather than the pornographic magazine publisher of, among others, Leg Sex and New Cummers) to form the world’s leading football comic. Was it Scorcher magazine that had a cover that featured an illi of John Greig beating McNeill to a header?
