Previously Halfords had 'insisted' on 'their' batteries being a lower cost option, and therefore inferior, to the usual manufacturer provided product under a contract. data-parent="#accordion-3">

Please also remember that we recommend this same battery, and the slightly smaller Varta LFD90 as the best Starter battery options in a Motorhome, NOT a dedicated Starter battery like the Fiat original. In real World use a Yuasa L36-EFB or Varta/Bosch Powerframe battery will outperform an AGM, even on cycle life. Sadly even the latest Nordelettronica UK speccharger version introduced in 2016 doesn't have an AGM charge profile.Yuasa, and all other manufacturers, state that for maximum battery life, a Lead acid battery should not be discharged below 50% Depth Of Discharge (DOD). For a modern battery that is between 12.5 and 12.2v depending on the Technology in the battery, as it is the technology in a battery that dictates the battery State Of Charge voltage. The electrics on my nearly new (March 2018 after about 5 months in showroom) Globecar are working OK but I want to upgrade my off EHU ability to comfortably cover 2 or 3 days wild.

E. If you are charging a battery below 11.00V (over discharged) that has been in service, a specialised charger capable of providing a very high charging voltage may be necessary, and the recommended current may not be obtainable at first. In this case, monitor the current and adjust as necessary during the charge. If a battery has become over discharged, it will have lost both life and performance because of irreversible sulphation. Charging may reduce further its potential life. Constant Potential Chargers the voltage rises to 14.4V to deliver the bulk charge to the battery. When the battery is charged, the voltage is decreased at stage 3 to 13.6V to deliver a float charge to maintain the battery in the fully charged state". data-parent="#accordion-3">

Connecting a Halfords solar maintainer to a leisure battery is easy.

Like a smart charger, you simply need to connect the red clamp to the positive terminal on the Hopefully things will now change and the whole industry will also start warning people about AGM's in motorhomes? You could argue that the bulk phase could also be completely omitted in such use but I hardly ever see more than about an amp going in until it reaches set voltage. That takes about two hours or so after sunrise, then a very short stay in absorbtion and the rest of the day it's in float. All voltages temperature compensated of course. less than 12.4V is deemed as deeply discharged and the use of a smart charger is advisable.

State of health testing should be carried out using a suitable conductance type tester. This type of Wet Acid technology is so super durable, the voltage they charge at doesn't need to be stated, they are so tolerant of anything from 13.5v to 14.4v.

Remember this is only a limited solution and the AGM may still have a short life, but the 2 part VSR has the option for a switch to disconnect the alternator so it doesn't over charge at 14.4v when it wants no more than a 13.6v float rate. I n short, we don't recommend the use of AGM batteries for habitation use unless the vehicle has a Stop/Start engine and is fitted with an AGM starter battery and an AGM compliant mains charger. I have never been able to find out what the CB516 charges the Starter battery at when it is set for an AGM battery. Does it charge the Starter battery with the same voltage as the AGM Leisures or is it at the correct 14.4v?Much depends also on how you use your MH. If it's parked for long periods then drop the victron down to 13.2-4 for float. I have mine set a few tenths higher as the van is used almost weekly and "storage" mode isn't as much a concern as getting it properly charged when out.

Unlikely, there is more to batteries than pure cycle life. But if you live in Orkney and holiday in Iceland, only ever use one LED light, no TV and give the battery the perfect life, then maybe. Looks like my reply has crossed with Spirou's and he has real world knowledge in setting these up, so better follow his advice and regard mine as 'General' info. Could someone give me an idea of which AGM battery I could match to my current LA95 without breaking the bank. Both the latest Sargent 151 with it's fixed, single 13.8v output and the EC600 with it's peak 14.4v wet acid only battery output, were released in the last 2 years. That's right, the Sargent EC151, a '1980's single stage specification' charger, with a fixed 13.5v, weak 10amp output was released in 2017.
