So let’s take a look at the individual forces and the Value in each box. 2021 Battleforce – Space Marines – Shieldbreaker Strike Force (Contents, Price, Value & Savings)

Now we end the list with the low point of the christmas battleforces. The Stromdrakes and Annihilators are both tempting, but there are much better options in the Stormcast range than the other models on this list. Despite the savings I’d give this one a miss, buy the decent units separately and spend the remaining money on more competitive models. One wise word of warning to you would be woodlands warriors, don’t let the eye-popping value cause you to miss the forest for the trees. Treelords seem to be in literally every box for Sylvaneth and it is difficult to imagine anyone needing more than seven kits in a lifetime. This box uses two of your kits and without the value they provide it becomes more of an average box. This is the third box released just this year with at least a treelord in it and GW shows no signs of stopping. Drycha is out of favor competitively but is a wonderful centerpiece model. Tree-Revenants/Spite-Revenants both have roles in the current book and are nice models, if difficult to put together for first-time hobbyists. Dryads are old kits that make one ask where sculpting ends and moldlines begin.If you are new to Battleforce boxes let me start with a warning you should probably heed. they sell out. FAST! FOMO is naturally true with these boxes. It’s always been the case and I expect the same to be true this year. We don’t think either of these lists are perfect, but almost any list you throw together in this book is worth trying! Wrapping it all up Battleforce boxes had success in 2020 & 2021. These are a fantastic way to get into a new army or even add to an existing one, but whats inside them and how many points of miniatures do you get? Rounding out your Allegiance abilities are a 6+ ward save if wholly within 12″ of a friendly Nighthaunt hero, a -1 bravery debuff for your opponent’s units that get too close to your spooky ghosts which is of marginal value, and a hero healing mechanic that comes up so rarely it’s not worth discussing today. Finally, your General can use the Command Ability Spectral Summons to teleport a unit on the board near to him (again outside of 9″ of any enemy models), which can be of huge utility if you have a severely damaged unit you want to pull to safety and replenish for later in the game. No Inspiring Presence can really change the moves your opponent is willing to pull. How much are you willing to risk those Allopexes next to Sinister terrain? Or your Stone Guard after they’ve used their Aetherquartz?

Chainghasts are pretty much as we saw them in Arena of Shades, functioning largely as a +1 to hit aura to Nighthaunt units while a Spirit Torment is on the battlefield. This is… nice, but because it’s dependent on a Spirit Torment floating around, killing that off means the Chainghasts are almost useless. At least you get them for free in the box with your Spirit Torment?
