A discussion is held about who is to go on the quest. It is decided that Zoë, Thalia, Bianca, Grover, and Phoebe would go, leaving Percy protesting. When asked whether his determination was due to his desperation to rescue Annabeth, Percy hesitates. In the end, the decision is final and there is nothing he could do to change it. Chiron tries to comfort him. Percy then sends an Iris message to his mother and finds her chatting with Paul Blofis, her new boyfriend. Before the connection is cut, Sally encourages Percy to do what he thinks is right. The Huntress girls were really interesting to meet and of course I’ve heard much of the famous Nico (he’s pretty precious and adorable) and Bianca. I love how characters that were introduced in book 1 and 2 make reappearances!! I had small issues with this book that brought down my rating a little. Firstly, this one definitely suffers from middle child syndrome. By this point in the series we know the stakes. We know that Percy's going to end up on an adventure that takes him outside Camp Halfblood, and we know that the end goal is seeing him reach his 16th birthday when prophecies abound. To be fair, the producers and directors likely had their own vision for the movie, and had their own thoughts on what would make it a box office success. Receiving critiques is also never easy. We shouldn’t put down anyone involved in those movies because they all had jobs to do and they did them to the best of their ability. Making a movie is a complex endeavor where you must marry creativity with practicality. It is not easy. The place was huge. The walls were lined with battle flags and weapon displays: antique rifles, battle axes, and a bunch of other stuff. I mean, I knew Westover was a military school and all, but the decorations seemed like overkill. Literally.

Athena leaves, and Percy dashes behind a wall to hide from the skeletons. He hears a noise behind him, and, thinking it is a skeleton, blindly slashes at a mortal girl who can see through the Mist, named Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Because she is mortal, the blade passes right through her, as if it is an illusion. She saves Percy by confusing the skeletons, allowing Percy to escape to his friends. The group gets trapped on the dam but are saved when the giant metal angel statues given to Zeus by Athena carry them off after Thalia prays to her father. They go to see Annabeth's father, Dr. Chase, to ask for help. Percy notes that the Chase home is one that 'looks like it had been lived in forever.' Dr. Chase lends them his car, and before they leave, Percy makes a promise to Mrs. Chase to tell Annabeth that she still had a home there. As they drive up the mountain, the car explodes due to a lightning bolt that Kronos threw to make Thalia angry at her father. The woman blinked, like someone had just woken her up from a trance. "I… yes. I believe I do, sir." She frowned at us. "Annabeth. Thalia. Percy. What are you doing away from the gymnasium?" Zoë Nightshade - The Lieutenant of the Hunters. Poisoned from a bite from the dragon, Ladon, and is dealt with the killing blow by her father, Atlas.

It is possible they are mercenaries more broadly working for Triumvirate Holdings. In The Hidden Oracle it is revealed Triumvirate Holdings funded the Second Titan War, and in The Burning Maze it is revealed they too have many mortal mercenaries working for them. This was just EXCELLENT! My favorite of the series. It was wonderful to see Tyson again, however briefly. Loved the introduction of Thalia and everything she brought to the group, Zoe and the Hunters of Artemis. siblings Nico and Bianca. So many new characters, yet each one with very different motives and distinct personalities, not one similar to the other; each one so unique, and lovable in their way. And roguish Percy sneaking his way to assist the quest. The ever danger of losing Annabeth or Percy kept me gripping my seat at all times, the possibility of their doom so near, threatening every turn, had me fearing for my life with each step they made. Unforgettable battles against mythical figures like the Manticore, the Nemean Lion and Talos, among others. Appearances of Artemis, Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares and Athena, among other gods. A terrible final confrontation with loses for both sides, and a painfully bittersweet ending. for Zoe and Thalia!Your fatal flaw is personal loyalty, Percy. You do not know when it is time to cut your losses. To save a friend, you would sacrifice the world. In a hero of the prophecy, that is very, very dangerous.” Did I ever tell you how I love the writing style of this series?? The writing style is SO good! It's really funny and the writing style is the first reason I enjoy reading this book. Like how could the author write this perfection?? Seriously, the writing style is so perfect. Percy, Annabeth, Thalia, and Artemis travel to Mount Olympus to attend the gods’ winter solstice meeting, Artemis convincing the Olympians of the Titans’ threat. Bessie is kept on Olympus for safekeeping. Thalia joins the Hunters to forestall the Great Prophecy, in which a child of either Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades could be used to bring victory for Kronos. Percy learns from Poseidon that Luke is alive. Upon returning to Camp Half-Blood, Percy informs Nico of Bianca's demise. A distraught Nico blames Percy, revealing he is a son of Hades when he banishes the spartoi to the Underworld, before fleeing. Percy tells Annabeth and Grover of Nico's lineage, the trio promising to keep it a secret, fearful that Nico will be the subject of the Great Prophecy. Have the gods taught you nothing? An immortal does not fight a mere mortal directly. It is beneath our dignity. I will have Luke crush you instead.”

Haha! Is it just me or is there actually no god he didn’t challenge already? XD No matter which goddess or god appears, Percy seems to be ready to fight them all and I love it! ;-P I think by now he’s so pissed that he just doesn’t care anymore. At this point he might even take them on for just looking at him the wrong way. *lol* I can’t help but wonder what this means for the next two books and I’m so ready to read “The Battle of the Labyrinth”!!! Next one, please! XD A brother and a sister," he said. "They're ten and twelve. I don't know their parentage, but they're strong. We're running out of time, though. I need help."Apollo - God of the Sun, Archery, and Prophecy. He drives a sun vehicle that, usually is in the form of a Maserati Spyder, can change with the push of a button. Apollo had recently traveled to Japan, and creates terrible haikus often. Dr. Thorn glared at us. I decided one of his eyes had to be fake. The brown one? The blue one? He looked like he wanted to pitch us off the castle's highest tower, but then Mrs. Gottschalk said dreamily, "Yes, the punch is excellent. Now run along, all of you. You are not to leave the gymnasium again!" The book is written in the same vein as the first, mining the Greek myths for monsters and plot, and mixing in an American road trip along with Percy's irreverent observations. a b c d The Titan's curse (first edition). LC Online Catalog. Library of Congress (lccn.loc.gov). May 2007. ISBN 9781423101451 . Retrieved November 5, 2015. One of those spikes finds its way into Percy’s shoulder. While he slowly succumbs to the poison, he gets the pleasure of hearing Thorn gloat about the Great Stirring, a massive uprising of deadly monsters. There’s even one powerful enough to bring down Olympus itself.
