It lasts long on me; 6 hours of top and middle scents. 6 more as a skin scent with dry down and then it disappears. La Petite Robe Noire was released, initially, in 2009, as a limited edition. In 2011, another edition was presented to the public under the name of La Petite Robe Noire 2. The base notes are then almost completely overshadowed by the strong, harsh and spicy smell of anise and I hardly get any of the vanilla that could have made this scent smell so much better. I also get too much of a sweet and almondy smell from the tonka bean and it is just not my favorite. I again don't smell any of the other notes during the drydown as well. As you get shrouded in this all the middle notes dance around, it is quite intricate and beautiful. The drydown of OG, on me, is kinda non-existent or just not strong enough for my skin. It's as if the perfume stops developing after I managed to smell the rose notes.

But what's interesting is the sourcherry & almond don't fade away, they are always present as the fragrance develops on the skin. I have trouble with La Petite Robe Noire. But first, the longevity of this on my skin is top-notch -- we're talking about twelve hours of perceptible, identifiable character. Projection is pretty close throughout, but this is a proper perfume in terms of staying power. The tartness goes away and I get alot of rose since my skin LOVES florals, the licorice gives a powdery, smoky thing to the scent which I really like. I don't get cough medicine or find this to be too sweet or juvenile! The output is very potent and it doesn't fade in about 30 minutes, as most of the fragrances. It manages to stay alive and even overlap at heart notes. So, on my skin, I haven't seen almost nothing of roses or tea. What's left was a very medicinal aroma, combined with a nuance of liquorice, which could be improved, and only after a long time, the base began holding the strange and sweet fragrance and turned out to be more balanced, mature and creamy. Then, it became easier to perceive the presence of vanilla and patchouli. I keep testing this fragrance in the hope that I might eventually like it enough to buy a full bottle. It has everything going for it; it's a Guerlain with an affordable price, good longevity and projection, and a nice bottle design. Some reviewers say it's a sweet gourmand, but on my skin it's far from that. It's actually a tiny bit too sharp and sour on me, reminding me of a strong cherry brandy mixed with spices and powdery but dusty roses. That's all, I get no vanilla whatsoever from it. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an unpleasant fragrance. I just don't get any lush vibes or wow factor from it. Maybe I was expecting too much from it. Maybe I'd been spoiled by my recent acquisition of L'heure Bleue (yes I know they're completely different kettles of fish, but coming from the same house I probably just expected LPRN to have more oomph!) or maybe the Tom Ford Lost Cherry that had arrived the previous day had just totally ruined any other cherry fragrance for me, forever. I would expect this to smell like the parfum version of a tea drunk by the Mad-Hatter during tea time in the mystical land of Wonderland... Or a candy found in Willy Wanka's candy factory! Something about this is 'out of this world' to me. Predominantly, this is a fruity gourmand. Veeeery small amount of floral. It's also super-synthetic, but in the best possible way. I know that a synthetic note sounds unappealing, but there is something about a synthectic cherry note that I love. It probably reminds me of something from my childhood so it hits the nostalgia factor for me. In LPRN, I found that the synthetic aspect tends to fade away and once it dries down, it smells like a spiced cherry almond dessert...at least on my skin. I find that clothing tends to retain some of the synthetic note a lot longer. I smell alot more of the rose in the opening and for the first couple hours. In the deeper drydown, it disappears completely and is replaced with the vanilla.

Sort of reminds me of a not so sweet potpourri - which also sort of reminds me of the department store haha. Oh! It was me. But I could only smell that vivid cherry when the air around me moved. I sniffed my arm, but got nothing. The marizpan-like cherry and almond blast in the opening notes smelt too much like food to me and not like a fragrance a grown woman would wear and I found it far too sweet, childish and abrasive. I didn't like this fragrance from the get-go. I don't know how a fragrance house can make me semi-psychotic about getting a bottle of almost cherry-flavoured medicine, but Guerlain win that particular trophy. After the sweet, herby, and smokey notes play for awhile, La Petite Robe Noir reveals its pedigree as the characteristic Guerlain base takes hold. The tonka bean and iris come to play, bringing the powder. This rounds out and smooths the fragrance, giving it that luxurious, almost velvet quality that I love. Longevity and sillage are typical for a Guerlain, which is to say excellent. I do not associate them with femme fatale, but rather with a young woman in spirit, self-confident and enjoying the moment. I personally found this scent quite cloying and slightly overpowering and it made me sneeze and have a headache. I'm really not into gourmand fragrances at all and i don't like scents that are spicy and/or super sweet... La Petite Robe Noire is both of those things...

Don't get me wrong, I like quite a few gourmands. And I'm capable of enjoying something very sweet, occasionally - Angel Eau Sucrée is the sweetest of all in my collection, but I can't handle anything sweeter than this. And here is my honest point of view : LPRN is too sweet for me. Much too sweet. For me this is cherry up top- it hits hard and acidic and becomes cherry cough syrup before clouding over with almond sparkles. So, as far as almonds go. Not a huge fan of the smell, nor eating them. Maybe I am an enigma. I don't like how they taste as a nut, or how they are as a milk, and I have not liked almond fragrances. The house of Guerlain launched an exclusive and limited edition La Petite Robe Noire in February 2009. In February 2011, it also presented the second limited edition of the line—La Petite Robe Noire 2. In early 2012, Guerlain decides to relaunch the debut and to offer the fragrance to a broad market. The new La Petite Robe Noire is modified, developed by the in-house perfumer Thierry Wasser. Lately I started a topic on the forum about people’s favorite 2-note-combo and a lady mentioned the cherry+almond combo, which I found oddly intriguing. She later told me that LPRN would be a great scent if I wanted to try so I put it on me again after all these years.

The performance of this fragrance is amazing. I find it lasts 10+ hours and projects quite a bit for 4-6 hours and the scent trail is delicious. It doesn't need a heavy spray to get that performance, but I do like to add an extra couple sprays when I wear it for a night out. I did overspray it one time...and it was not good...way too much. It then settles to an uber-glamourous scent. Rest assured, it *does* calm down. It's still cherry-heavy, but that almond is actually quite gentle, and I do honestly detect a small amount of rose and iris which I believe brings the glam factor (Not The X-Factor, geddit?). First of all I want to start off by saying I looooooooooove non-citrus fruity, scrumptious scents that aren't too heavy, mature and synthetic. This makes my heart beat for the Mediterranean... I suspect something though- I have found if I spray it after a shower I get that syrup cherry smell, almost a powdery scent I think that's the licorice and tonka bean. This doesn't go away until like 6 hours later to be able to smell the dry down.

I love the idea of sour cherries alongside almond and tonka with soft spices like licorice and anise. In practice it smells like buying gourmet licorice in an old fashioned candy store. The sweet gourmand cough syrup of my dreams, hehe. Musk is another note that can be powdery, if you see musk and rose listed together in a fragrance, the fragrance is likely to be at least somewhat powdery, although it could also lean more soapy or creamy. Violet and Iris are the true dead giveaways for a powdery fragrance. The upside is the fact that it is impossible for a woman to wear this perfume and not be noticed, because exudes and lasts surprisingly. The downside is that the climate of Brazil did not help and the perfume requires a lot of flexibility to be enjoyed. I believe to be most appropriate for night time use and sparingly. I'm 24 almost 25 a mom of two boys under 3 years old. I have a big perfume collection most of which are sweet younger scents. I want to try guerlain because I've heard so many good things about the company. This one seemed safest to try out first. It's a powdery cherry that fades from being tart to sweet to tart again. It's beautiful the way it develops. I absolutely love it. It seems sophisticated while being youthful at the same time. It's really different from anything I've tried. I don't get much licorice in this. Just a hint of it here and there more so further in the drydown.

I am having the hardest time articulating my thoughts about Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (EDP). I really like it, that I know for sure. Every time I take a big sniff of my wrists I have a split second where I think I can smell every single individual note, but then the second passes and I can't smell every note, just a wonderful blend of them: cherry, almond, licorice, tea, vanilla, rose, tonka bean, patchouli, iris, etc. Obviously there are other notes that can make a fragrance powdery, but these are the most common ones by my (limited knowledge). Hope this helps 😊
