Company Number 06623484 VAT no. 983405503 Assembly compound such as Park Tool SAC-2 is basically a silicon dioxide (sand-like) material in a liquid or paste carrier. Do not confuse an assembly compound with grease! It is not lubrication — in fact, it provides extra friction wherever it is applied. Unless you're riding in very dry conditions, and are willing to replace the grease very often, the above test shows an insignificant part of the picture.

It is always better to take test rides/bike fittings by putting on the same shoes, apparel which you normally prefer for rides. There can be difference in fit when you are wearing a pair of jeans than when you are in cycling shorts. features Hi Hambini. Thanks for enlightening us with this article on bearings. I have a Lucas White Lithium Grease ( https://lucasoil.com/products/grease/white-lithium-grease). Just now I read that is not recommended for wheel bearings. Since it is NLGI #2, should I go ahead and apply it?

Free hub seal grease . This is not for freehubs in general but is specifically for Shimano's Microspline seals, and for specific seals there. The datasheet gives the same basic constituents as the previous one, but it might be different. For the ratchet found on DT Swiss, Enve hub or the campy pawl system, would using the same grease be ideal? or #2 will be more ideal? The NLGI rating will effectively control the materials that are used. For example, copper grease is rarely found in low NLGI numbers because it contains copper as an abrasive and is unsuitable for moving parts, this is often why it is called anti-seize compound. In contrast, lithium and teflon are found at the more dynamic end of the scale owing to reduced friction. Carbon Grease / Fiber Paste Most bicycle bearing grease has a fancy marketing name like “Shimano Premium Grease”. I cannot find a NLGI number or any specifications of it. That can mask a ‘just buy me and do not ask or look elsewhere’ scam. Does anyone have a clue which NLGI number it has?

Hydraulic mineral oil - this is for disc brakes, and is different from DOT fluid. Anecdotally people use mineral oil including baby oil, and it 'works'. But Shimano claim that only theirs is good and others can destroy your brakes. https://bikerumor.com/2013/04/11/tech-speak-brake-fluid-break-down-and-implications-for-road-disc-updated/ Take this with a pinch of salt as there are bunch of hydraulic mineral oils sold specifically for bicycles and no complaints. Different hydraulic mineral oils do have different boiling points, and different viscosity. It's possible that the freehub has worn out, but if not, you definitely don't want grease in there as it gums up the mechanism. There is a reason why I know this...

before applying the new grease, do i need to remove the factory grease? (use a degreaser) or it’s okay just to open the seal, wipe clean then add new one into the mix? A high load grease that keeps corrosionat bay, and avoids damage to the bearing, is by far superior in the long haul. With 234 products available we worked out that 47 cost more than Shimano Premium Grease and 181 were cheaper. Cost of Shimano products Cutting fluid such as Park Tool CF-2 should be used during any kind of cutting, tapping, facing, or reaming process. It will extend the life of the cutting tool and ensure optimum performance. I mostly ride in summer, dry condition to the end of fall with wet surface, but never while it’s raining; and service interval has higher priority than performance, would NLGI 1, like Gadus S3 and S2 V220 give me a good performance while only need to service the bearing every 8~12 month? or the Mobile 007 should be able to last?Premium grease and actually decent value. by Anonymous, 2 February 2010, 8 out of 8 people found this review helpful This is great stuff. I bought one of the little tubs a few years ago and it works very well – it’s stiff enough that it’s easy to apply but very very smooth. It definitey seems to last well too – I’ve taken things apart after 6 months use and the grease has still looked great – which didn’t seem to happen before. It’s actually good value even for such a small tub – because you don’t need to replace it so often and because there’s no waste when you apply it. Definitely recommended. If price is at all a concern, you may want to try Motorex fett 2000. Its very similar, possibly the same as Shimano Premium grease. Also sold in a smaller tin as Motorex bike grease 2000. There are some applications where you should only use the approved grease and using the wrong grease really will cause a problem. This includes roller brake grease. This is critical to use the exact grease specified, and unsafe to substitute anything else. Take a look now to discover what makes Shimano Premium Grease worthy of a review score of 9.4 out of 10. Anti-seize is ideal for surface preparation on threaded and press fit applications, especially between two dissimilar materials. It provides a durable, long-lasting layer of protection that guards against moisture and corrosion more effectively than grease. Any threaded or press fit application where you can use grease, you can use anti-seize compound.
