Before he dies, the final bedtime story we see Peter give to Nemo involves him going on an adventure with Flip to the Sea of Nightmares to find a magic pearl. Nemo assumes Flip is a fictional character, but when she finds herself in Slumberland, she realises he was real. Before they head into the Sea of Nightmares to get a pearl (which would allow Nemo to see her father again in Slumberland), she tells Flip the truth of who he is. Learning that he's a dull doorknob salesman in real life, Flip refuses to use a pearl to wish he was awake. Peter chose to stop having his adventures in Slumberland when he decided to have a family, but Flip found out a way to stay in the dream world and hasn't woken up in the real world for more than three decades.
