Description

It’s important to note that as impressive as ultrawide displays are, their resolutions aren’t always supported by modern tech. If you’re looking for a monitor to connect to your PS5 or Xbox Series X, you’re probably better off with a standard monitor because the traditional resolutions are supported on those consoles. Is an ultrawide monitor good for gaming?

The AW3821DW adds to its premium status with G-Sync Ultimate certification, working with Nvidia graphics cards from 24-144 Hz with HDR. It also proved to be FreeSync-compatible in our tests, though it has not been certified by AMD. You’ll have to use the DisplayPort 1.4 input to hit 144 Hz signals or use (unofficial) FreeSync. The HDMI 2.0 inputs support up to 85 Hz at full resolution and 120 Hz at 2560 x 1440. Gamers have additional potential concerns. Depending on the specific game and your playing style, ultrawide monitors can be a boon or a hindrance for multiplayer gaming. The panels can deliver benefits in many MOBAs, battle royale titles, and real-time-strategy (RTS) games. But hardcore esports competitors may actually want a smaller, more focused view of the proceedings without, say, being distracted by enemies that appear suddenly at the periphery of the screen. Some esports pros strongly prefer a compact 16:9 monitor to keep the action in the primary field of view. (Credit: Molly Flores) This 38-inch monitor offers a wide range of features that cater to different types of users. It has a curved IPS panel display, which not only provides an impressive color gamut coverage but also delivers high-resolution image quality. This means that as a photographer, you'll get accurate colors right out of the box, making it a great choice for editing photos. The ergonomic stand is also a plus, as it allows for full adjustment to maintain good posture while working. this has much faster nano IPS,144 refresh rate , slightly bigger at 38” but with the same pixel density being 3840x1600 21.45% more pixels the GPU needs to run but still keeping a 21:9 aspect ratio unlike the 49” Samsung G9 that’s it’s own uniqe aspect ratio that I doubt has much if any game support you

Top-of-the-line 38-inch ultrawide

Restructured the article to reflect current market prices and availability; added the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 as the 'Best Ultrawide Monitor' and renamed the LG 38WN95C-W as the 'Best Upper Mid-Range Monitor'; removed the LG 34GP83A-B because it's hard to find, and removed the AOC CU34G2X because it went up in price; renamed the Gigabyte M34WQ as the 'Best Budget Monitor' and added the Dell S3422DWG. Our first impression of the AW3821DW is that it is very colorful with a nicely saturated image that’s bright and sharp. It also filled the peripheral vision at a 2-3-foot viewing distance with no head turning required. We observed this when reviewing the Acer X38 as well. The 2300R curve and 38-inch size is ideal for an immersive view, no matter the content. If you compare it with a 34-inch display, it is the same as 3440×1440 resolution while on a 27-inch screen it would be equal to 2560×1440 which is pretty amazing when it comes to image quality.

With 49 inches of screen real estate, the Philips Brilliance 499P9H is a delight for multitaskers. Its curved ultrawide screen with 5K native resolution lets you work with photos and intricate diagrams or view two or three program windows side by side. It's bright, it supports HDR, and it has good color coverage. Like others in its class, the 499P9H is on the pricey side, but it's a highly capable display that's easy to recommend for any office seeking a multitasking monster and a good user experience. Who It's For During testing, the 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio certainly delivered the ‘wow’ factor –games feel much more cinematic on this display, offering not just a super-immersive experience, but also a tactical advantage. In particular, Microsoft Flight Simulator greatly benefited from the ultrawide design as it allowed us to keep an eye on landmarks and runways without pressing a button to switch views. Its ability to display four, full-sized A4 documents, huge spreadsheets, and large graphical working areas makes it a productivity dream. Plus, during testing, its Ultra HD 3,840 x 1,600 resolution kept everything crisp and in sharp relief while its evenly lit panel married with the matte screen kept us from feeling fatigued even after prolonged periods of work. The HP E45c G5 DQHD Curved Monitor, a 45-inch ultrawide productivity monitor, renders a bright image with full sRGB color coverage. The E45c is a good replacement for a dual-QHD-monitor setup thanks to its virtual features that emulate twin displays. The E45c also has good ergonomics for an ultrawide monitor. Its range of connection choices includes Ethernet, dual USB-C ports that provide up to 100 watts of power delivery, four USB-A downstream ports, DisplayPort, and HDMI. Who It’s For Testing monitors in general is more involved than you'd think. It isn't as simple and straightforward as setting it up, using it for a day, and taking down notes. A monitor is an investment, whether you're looking to get the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio or need the screen real estate an ultrawide monitor can offer, so we take great pains to ensure that anything we recommend is worth your hard-earned money. Ultrawide business monitors are a boon to multitaskers. Why? For starters, they let you open multiple full-size application windows on the same screen. A few manufacturers, Dell among them, include software to help you split the giant screen into neatly arranged windows. That software can go beyond what Windows' built-in tiling, snapping, and auto-resize features can do. A lot of games are introducing support for ultrawide resolutions, too, so you can definitely improve your gameplay experience with an ultrawide in some cases. Not all games support ultrawide yet though, so you're likely better off with one of the best gaming monitors using the standard 16:9 screen ratio if you're more interested in your monitor's gaming performance. Is there an ultrawide monitor larger than 34-inches?Thanks to the IPS-display, viewing angles are pretty decent. The out-of-box calibration is amazing as well.

Some games like Final Fantasy XIV do support 21:9 aspect, however, and when this is the case a game world can feel even more expansive and immersive as a result. Is an ultrawide monitor worth it? The BenQ EW3880R is just as great for work as it is for media consumption. It boasts a subtle curvature that increases immersion, that ultra HD resolution in 21:9, and eye-comfort features that boosts productivity. Terms Apply. Promotion ends 3 December 2023. All in all, this 38" monitor has been designed for professional use. In the professional-content-creator arena, graphic artists and photographers can benefit from extra screen width. They can open and work with two or more images (or several versions of the same photo or illustration) side by side. Ultrawides often let photo or video editors look at their source material in full resolution, while allowing enough screen space alongside it for palettes, toolbars, or timelines to coexist without requiring resizing or shuffling.
