Description

Vanilla Fudge – Moving up the complexity scale, Quality Street’s vanilla fudge sweets come in an instantly recognisable pink wrapper and consist of a vanilla fudge core with a chocolate shell. We finish with one of the 'original two', Roses, which launched in 1938 - two years after Quality Street first came onto the market. If you reach straight for the fruity flavour of a classic Strawberry Delight when the box of Quality Street® is opened, this one is just for you. This sharing bag of Strawberry Delights has been made just for lovers of these classic fruity fondants. Discover the iconic sparkle of these individually-wrapped strawberry flavour chocolates. Each one contains a deliciously smooth strawberry-flavoured centre coated in rich dark chocolate. Toffee Deluxe (replaced by Honeycomb Crunch, reintroduced and then replaced by Chocolate Caramel Brownie)

The Purple One – Another nutty delight, the Purple One includes a hazelnut encased in gooey caramel inside a chocolate shell. The list of discontinued brands is far less extensive than its three competitors with just two losing their place over the years.

Heroes, of course, have been around for nowhere near as long as Cadbury's other selection though they now feel like they have been available for a long, long time. Lindt – The Swiss chocolatier Lindt makes beautiful Neapolitans (solid chocolate chunks), eggs and chocolate figures that are probably a cut above Quality Street and Roses. Then again, you get less for your money, although what you do get is exceptional.

Muhamad Hamzapur, 18, said he is not usually a big chocolate fan but that he liked the new Quality Street. “To be honest, I don’t normally want to eat them [Quality Streets], but this one’s delicious,” said the student from Bermondsey. Share with friends and family and create treasured moments this festive season, or give the perfect gift to a Strawberry Delight lover. Whatever the occasion, nothing says ‘Christmas’ more than the sparkle of Quality Street®. This boxed confectionery was originally branded as Miniature Heroes and were introduced in September 1999 as a response to rival Mars' Celebrations (more on them later). The box, of course, contains tiny versions of various Cadbury chocolate bars.

Quality Street: Sweets for Everyone

Strawberry Delight – As the name implies, these fruity chocolates are a delight, consisting of a chocolate shell filled with strawberry cream. Metal Tins – Large chocolate assortments that could last for months on end. Features all of the company’s varieties as well as cards explaining which colour corresponds to the flavours on offer. To illustrate the differences between the two eras of selection boxes, Roses, like Quality Street, had their flavours specifically made and wrapped in coloured foil compared to Celebrations and Heroes later using brands that already existed.

According to Nestle, three Quality Street chocolates add up to around 130 calories, so each single chocolate will be about 40-50 calories. Given that the daily recommended intake of an adult woman is 2,000 calories, that doesn’t seem to bad. Then again, it’s easy to start munching chocolates, and before too long, your calorie intake has gone through the roof. Please note, calorie figures are not exact and are based on averages from the nutritional information available. Quality Street Chocolate Type Unsurprisingly, given that the brand has been around for the best part of 85 years, there have been many flavours that had to be sacrificed to make way for the current crop. Like Heroes, they comprise of miniature versions of the chocolate brands owned by the manufacturer - Mars. Individual larger versions of the more popular chocolates are now manufactured and sold separately, as an extension to the brand, such as a bar based on the Purple One.Taking a break from perusing the shelves, Frank Vergara, 53, was so keen to try it that he made an exception from his usual rule of avoiding treats on weekdays. The sales and marketing worker from Waterloo said: “I definitely taste the white chocolate. There are little grains in there, I’m not sure exactly what they are but it’s quite pleasant. Quite sweet of course … But definitely indulgent, nice.”
