You are never allowed to discard a contract that is in your export box, it can only be removed by fulfilling it which is another action you can take on your turn. The good furthest on the track is worth 3 victory points and the one furthest behind is 5 points and each players imported good totals (on completed contracts) are multiplied by these numbers.

Unlike some however the multipliers will be decided by how rare an import good is by how much it has been imported using the contracts all players are completing. As another action, you complete a contract by turning in the goods depicted on your chosen contract.Money is very tight in this game so any opportunity to save money or make a profit is an opportunity that shouldn’t be squandered. Settlement scoring is not about having expanded to the most map spaces, but rather having the most individual non-touching settlements by the end of the game. There is however a solo automa which has been designed and I believe is still being tested and may or may not be part of a future expansion which is a lot more complex and simulates a real opponent. There are several other ways you can get points throughout that shouldn’t be ignored, such as the end of round bonuses and the end game settlement scoring. The net benefit of this clan, even if it made river delta spaces free, would only be 1 or 2 at most additional actions per round.

Your role is to expand your influence in the Highlands, cut wood or mine ore for income, plant the land with wheat, as well as herd cows and sheep.It has a rather smart-tastic whiff of ‘points salad’ at the end, too, which may not be to everyone’s taste, but does mean the final winner is not always so obvious. I can accept it and even admire it because it’s a self inflicted wound and it provides a difficult decision point in the game.

If wheat is cheap right now, for instance, it would behoove you to snatch some up and position yourself to use that wheat in some beneficial way in future rounds such as building a distillery to turn it into whiskey – even if you aren’t producing any wheat of your own! Players take turns and do one of 8 possible actions, from building, to upgrading, trading and exporting. After all players have passed the production phase happens for all players in which each players placed units will product the goods listed. There whole Clan card is taken up by the fisherman slots, so their clansperson that Klemens drew otherwise wouldn’t have a home. I try to complete 1 contract in the first round so you can take 2 and get 10 bonus money to give me more options for placing pieces out on the map.

This was the title of the Kickstarter for Clans of Caledonia the board game and I’ve got to say that name caught my interest right away.
